I use gnn.com a lot, bbc.co.uk is always pretty reliable and has tons of infomation on it, not really 'alternative' though it is usually unbiased.

There's no such thing as an unbiased media source. Accept that and you'll have a great deal more luck understanding media.

I like www.infoshop.org for the news section. Of course, your local indymedia is always solid (particularly if you post things and make it better!)

That is true, I just mean that the BBC uses gives a good overview of the situation from both sides of the story.
