View Full Version : America doesn't need to stop polluting!

Possibly the most stupid thing I have ever heard in my life. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,1999966,00.html)
I think this has gotten way beyond a joke now. First global warming is downplayed or just outright denied, now THIS is the capitalist solution. We'll keep increasing pollution and when we've fucked it all away we'll block out the sun. Nothing short of physically shutting down factories etc. will stop neoliberalism.

Bush must have watched the Simpsons where Mr. Burns blocks out the sun.

Deffinately a really poor attempt at a solution however this is already in action in the for of Global dimming an even bigger threat to the environment.

It appears that if we deal with global warming it results in increased global dimming and vice versa. The situation need to be addressed quickly. If the US continues to ignore the warnings from scientists and allows it emmisions to continue then we're gonna have serious problems. It'd be nice if they could come up with better solutions than mirrors and space dust.

this is just like brushing it up under the carpet. the solution is to stop polluting, not putting mirrors into space!

When we shut down the factories and things, what will we do to get any useful products that they made?

The IPCC just released their report on global warming and the conclusion is that it is "very likely man-made".
IPCC reports that global warming very likely man-made (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070201/ap_on_sc/france_climate_change;_ylt=AvC7psyrkjDkrVMq.lwZeUA PLBIF;_ylu=X3oDMTA2Z2szazkxBHNlYwN0bQ--)

You surely know better than to compare the shiny things and necessities. I obviously wasn't alluding to a future of rubbing sticks together to make fire!
Fact of the matter is, we're all sorting out cans and rinsing out bottles in a pathetic smokescreen of saving the planet. There isn't shit that can change the minds of neoliberals so even if the rest of the worlds players eg China held back and produced with one hand tied behind its back to at least slow down the destruction, neoliberalism keeps on truckin'.

Um, I think the US government has been watching to much TV. I feel weird for saying this but their is a Powerpuff girl episode in which i think the boogeyman comes out and blocks the sun out with a giant disco ball....seems to be about the same plan.

Right. See I know people who work in factories, I did myself at one point. What do they and their coworkers do? Just say "Oh well, some liberal hippy decided I shouldn't be putting food on the table because they wanted to start with some idiotic 'environmental' attack on neoliberalism without actually adressing the root of the matter and joining the class war?"
You're a disgusting anti-worker greenie and your idiot type seems to keep growing by the day.

I'm not some kind of great forward planner. I don't know if I have clean underwear for tomorrow, its just an (albeit sexy) chance I'll take. As a worker (one of the numerous conceited bastards with a little intelligence but not a lot when it comes to paper qualifications; dole queues and barstools are full of us) I take exception. Personally I don't think about futures and smiling children of all races dancing in cornfields too much. However, I DO feel, that, as a current hot subject, the environment is a good springboard for a rant.
We are all told that if we don't recycle, we'll destroy the earth. Big business lobbies for something against this. I tried to point this out as stupid and contrary to public opinion, perhaps a more blatant "fuck you plebs" than normal. As for how your factories are powered in the future I really dont care. Wind, solar, burning fluffy bunnies... My point was that neoliberalism is going to continue to produce. At no point did I say that industrialisation must end.

I know that type. I am that type.

This isn't what I'm taking exception to it's the closing of the factories and hus decreasing the amount of jobs which I am having problems with.

Even if we were to completely stop pumping our massive amounts of carbon dioside into the atmosphere, the amount of it in the atmosphere would cause temperatures to continue to rise for decades. The "capitalists" may be onto something. As is Jazzrat. We can't simply shut down factories and put millions out of work. And we have to do something about the temperature. So, both the cappies and Jazzrat are onto something, and either is a rare occurance. I'd call this monumental. What we need is to reduce global temperature by physically cooling the earth, reduce carbon dioxide concentrations by "scrubbing" the air using CO2-absorbing chemicals, and all the while work to reduce and effectively eliminate our contribution to global atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. Anybody have any problems with that?
Oh, and Jazzrat, I noticed your, among others', prolific use of the term Green as a derogatory term referring to environmentalists. I'll have you know that a Capitalist Magazine (that's its title) often uses the term and has similar views to yours on environmentalism. Just thought I'd bring it up, cappie.

Oh dear, this is really quite a salient example of the bad company fallacy (http://www.fallacyfiles.org/guiltbya.html). So much so in fact that I might use it when teaching people basic logic.
