I posted this topic because I realized how much President Bush, relates to that famous quote, "history always repeats itself first as tragedy then a farce" here is my arguement...

1. the term "war on terror" was originally used by the Reagan administraton to kick off a campaign of U.S. state sponsered terror that south american journalist summed up as "one is tempted to believe that some people in the White House worship Aztec gods- with there offering of Central American blood.", now once again a campaign by the exact same name, once again has been used as an excuse to use U.S. supported terror through out the world, not to mention the direct invasions of American solders...

2. the election/re-election of Bush in 2000/2004, the first time by ruling of a supreme court filled with his friends, then by a voting machine released by a major repulican sponsor.

as well as many others what do the rest of you think?

Bush is a farce? I guess you learn something new every day. One cannot help but draw a comparison between Reagan and Bush because they are so alike.

I don't think that Marx actually felt history repeats itself, especially under such a formula. It was just a catchy way of starting a discussion on Napoleon III.

Your comments remind me of a piece written after Bush's election that looks at Hegel simiarly: ASDFASDF (http://www.inthesetimes.com/site/main/article/1662/)

He discusses why he states that, to an extent that makes clear that it was much more than a catchy phrase.

He meant that when people endeavour their struggles under the impression that they are recasting a historical event, the result is farsesque (people who keep talking about who is going to be the Venezolan/American/Nepalese/Iranian Kerensky are doing exactly this, for instance).

Good point but I was also trying to point out that there are striking similairities between Bush Jr. and his predessor's, especially on the subject of "fighting a war on terror"
