This is just an idea that I want to run by everyone. I was thinking that maybe we could have this every year if its successful. What this competition will be is that members will be encouraged to enter a poem of their own, and we can all vote on the best ones. I think its a good idea because it will encourage creative thought - it doesn't have to be political, either, so long as its a poem.

So, I want to know what people think of the idea, and if they have any suggestions?

we could try, still how many poets are there here? not many...

but I found this in posted by Muigwithania

Call them all what you will,
It's us that they want to kill,
they're here and they're now,
but we'll kick em' out anyhow.

Are songs allowed? Because they are in a sense poetry.

Do we post in this thread or will another one be set up? Also, can we have multiple entries?

It'll probably be better to have a new thread for the entries. I suppose people could have more than one entry, so long as they keep to a reasonable number (say, no more than 3 per person?). I won't start the entry thread yet until there's a reasonable number of people taking part (said thread should be open for about two weeks, then there'll be polls for poems (if we get 30 entries, there'll be 3 polls) and these polls will run for a week, and the winner from each goes through to a final poll, and that will run for another week. There'll be a winner, 2cd place and a 3rd place.

We will need a mod or admin to close the threads after they have been open for the alloted time.

If it starts in the next week or so, it'll end in early March.

I'm not sure on the legitimacy of 'songs' into the genre of poetry. Poetry has some guidelines, rhyming couplets don't make poetry, the most important things are the beat and rythm of poetry and the language used which divides from ordinary speech and other genre's of literature.

Songs are very different from poetry, although many songs can be poetic they aren't nessescarily poetry.
