Rally on the third anniversary of TJ's murder

On St Valentines day, 2004, young T.J Hickey was chased by the Redfern police, and particularly, by then constable Michael Hollingsworth. Arising from that pursuit, and the subsequent ramming by a police vehicle of his bike, TJ became impaled upon a metal spiked fence.

Proper medical practices were not followed by the Police that resulted in his death in hospital the next day. Had those proper practices been followed, it is likely that TJ would be nearly 20 today.

Following his death, a cover-up began by the then NSW premier, the police commissioner Ken Moroney and the NSW police force. His inquest also was a legal farce as crucial evidence was blocked by the police investigation. The Redfern police were exonerated from any involvement and so the fight for justice continues. The only ones found guilty and gaoled were those who showed their anger and outrage to the murder of TJ.

During November of 2004, another death occurred when Snr Sgt Christopher Hurley arrested Mulrunji Doomadgee. During a scuffle, Hurley badly assaulted Mulrunji, causing horrific injuries that led to him being found dead on the cell floor.

Then a cover-up began to 'prove' that Hurley was not involved in the killing of Mulrunji. Like TJ's death, this was just another unfortunate accident.
After two coroners and 740 days, and despite tremendous government and police pressure, acting state coroner Christine Clements bravely recommended that Hurley face court on charges of killing Mulrunji.

As we know, all hell broke out in Queensland and all around the coutry when DPP Leanne Clare 'found' that Hurley had no case to answer. Our Murri warrior, Sam Watson, will inform us what is going on and what we must do to fight for justice on behalf of the Doomadgee family, the Palm Island community and their supporters.

The rally/march arranged for 14th february, 2007 will begin at 10.30am at the fence line, and at the appropriate time 1 minute silence will be held. We then march to the old redfern police station for another 1 minute silence. Then to the new Redfern police station to do it again. 1 minute silence for each year remembered.
An open bbq will happen at the block following the actions above.

Donations to cover costs will be sought.

An open microphone will be available throughout the protests to allow for full community input.
