anybody want to recommend a sad boy like me some sad music, specific albums or songs
as for me, i really like (basically everything by) the smiths, nick drake, joy division, leonard cohen
(his earlier stuff),
sinatra's "in the wee small hours," my bloody valentine's "loveless" (i find it sad anyway), bob dylan "live 1966" the acoustic disc especially, david bowie "low," brian eno "another green world" (it makes me sad and so does alot of his ambient stuff)
a few individual songs i think are really good and really sad , david bowie "heroes," pavement "here," rolling stones "wild horses," john cage "in a landscape," a bunch of stuff by the velvet underground i think is sad. also i always found the beatles "don't let me down" really sad and it's also my favorite beatles song...in fact there are too many individual songs to list
anyway what music makes you feel sad??

I recommend the saddest song ever recorded: "Gloomy Sunday" by Rezso Seress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloomy_Sunday), aka the Hungarian Death Song.

I'd recommend you check out Sigur Ros, their music has a melancholic beauty to it. Also Godspeed You! Black Emperor is similar if you like Sigur Ros.

Mozart's Requiem and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata are classics.
If you're depressed and wants to get in a better mood though, nothing beats the good ol' Internationale.

Irish traditional/folk ballads tend to make me extremely sad. There Were Roses by Cara Dillon, Shall My Soul Pass Through Ireland, and Green Fields of France are real killers for me :(

Sigur Ros's music is not remotely sad, rather a lot of it is very uplifting.

Arvo Part is probably the greatest contemporary composer. His vocal arrangements are stunning, despite being so minimalist. Definitely worth checking out.
Here's the lyrics to the Gloomy Sunday/Hungarian death song. I'll email you the mp3: xchimx [ate] gmail [dood] com
Meghalt a szeretet!
Vége a világnak, vége a reménynek
Városok pusztulnak, srapnelek zenélnek
Emberek vérétôl piros a tarka rét
Halottak fekszenek az úton szerteszét
Még egyszer elmondom csendben az imámat:
Uram, az emberek gyarlók és hibáznak...
Vége a világnak!
English translation:
It is autumn and the leaves are falling
All love has died on earth
The wind is weeping with sorrowful tears
My heart will never hope for a new spring again
My tears and my sorrows are all in vain
People are heartless, greedy and wicked...
Love has died!
The world has come to its end, hope has ceased to have a meaning
Cities are being wiped out, shrapnel is making music
Meadows are coloured red with human blood
There are dead people on the streets everywhere
I will say another quiet prayer:
People are sinners, Lord, they make mistakes...
The world has ended!

Speaking of Radiohead, I'm gonna recommend Thom Yorke's solo album The Eraser, it has a couple of sad songs on it. And it really doesn't feel that Radiohead-ish, which i think is a good thing.

Duke Special. Just discovered him the other day, bought his album a couple of days later. Look for "Wake up, Scarlett" or "Brixton Leaves". Half the albums sad and the other half's quite cheery.

He has some very haunting and sad songs. His songs before he killed himself hint at his impending death, making them very sad if you know what happens to him. All of his albums are amazing.

Well I guess the Cure were the forefathers of today's emo shit(Sucks that a great band like them caused this mess), so their music is emotionally based...it's not very sad though, I find it kinda uplifting. :D

Music can be interpreted lots of different ways, so it's difficult to say what is "sad" and what isn't.
Some 'emotional' pieces of music I quite like is a song by Jeff Buckely called 'Morning Theft' on 'My sweatheart the drunk'
But also lots of other pieces of classical music. This is but one of them: Le Mepris by Saint-Saens (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=29113267) - (You have to choose it)

It is have you actually listened to their lyrics? The music may be upbeat but the lyrics aren't.

I think he supported the BNP and condemned illegal immigration. But it was a one-time deal and he's certainly not some sort of public spokesperson for the right. If he were, I surely wouldn't listen to his music. So long as he doesn't espouse his right-wing agenda in his music or publicly, I don't really care. I don't really believe that I'm buying music from a racist or right-winger. He did perform at George Harrison's benefit concert for Bangladesh. He's just confused.
What's wrong with Simon & Garfunkle?

Clapton without Cream is mostly very mediocre, but there were some gems. The collaboration with BB King and the unplugged album with Tears in Heaven are two.
