Leaked? You mean someone actually wanted to listen to their music enough to try to get it early? Wow, the stupidity of suburban 13 year olds never ceases to amaze me.

supposedly it was someone in the printing plant, so hopefully they did it as an act of spite or sabotage...but probably not. regardless of the motive, it still means trouble for fallout boy, and we can all be happy about that.

No the worst leak in music history has to go to Lupe Fiasco, his debut album leaked like 4 months before his release date and it fucked it up for him hardcore. Its a shame because he's such a great rapper

Would you prefer they thought everyone's goal in life was to make rock stars even richer? Fuck you for not being totally clueless, Pete Wentz?

I hope it turns out to be a brilliant promotional move and they sell lots of copies. Leading more bands, and who knows some record companies start releasing free music on the internet. Or at least stop being so draconian-obsessive about how they enforce copyright.

I don't have a problem with copyright per se - it's a necessary evil, at least under capitalism. The only alternative for paying full-time writers and musicians is some form of patronage - that has its own problems.

But a lot of the stuff being done in the name of enforcing copyright and "stopping piracy" is insane and dangerous. It's a little like the war on drugs, really: it's not that heroin is so great, just that the anti-drug operations are even worse.

What? I can't even make sense of this.

Fuck the guy for talking about workers who make minimum wage like they're trash. Like he's any better.

And fuck "artists" who get caught up in copyrights. How the fuck can you "own" a song?? I can learn the words/chords/etc. and play the same things, maybe different, maybe the same, maybe better, maybe worse. Point is, it's bullshit.

On top of it all, bootlegs and leaks don't really affect most artists. 90% of artists get their money when they sign, as an upfront bonus. They have to recoup (pay back) that, plus promotion/video/etc. costs before they'll ever see a penny from album sales; and even then, most only make a few cents on each individual sale. The larger percentage of artists never recoup, and thus don't see any money from actual sales. They make most of their loot in live shows.

The people that are affected are the capitalists that run the record labels (or should I say label, in the singular form, since almost all mainstream music is put out by the same people now). Fuck them.

Leak it up.

I remember getting the Return to Cookie Mountain by TV On the Radio leaked album several months before it was officially released. I immediately fell in love with it. A few months later when it officially came out everyone else fell in love with it and it appeared on many best of the year lists. Now that was a good leak.

Well, that's true in this thread anyway. Try re-reading the article then my earlier post, see if you get the points.

BTW, another example of a leak that turned out to be good promotion was the current Battlestar Galactica.

Do they mean "worst leak" as in it's the worst music to ever be leaked? Can't say that I disagree.

Their drummer used to be a band called Vegan Reich which proposed that a revolution take place and a vegetarian dictatorship come into power. I believe that Pete Wentz guy was in it too. Anyways, because their completely idiotic idea they were also know for being militant animal rights activists, homophobic, and anti-abortion.

They probably haven't changed. Assholes.

I stood right next to Pete Wentz and the rest of that lot after my friends waited after a gig they did in Belfast to get pictures etc. The adulation of middle-class idiots (hmm, that makes it sound like my friends are m/c idiots... perhaps I should phrase that better) has gone to their heads.

"Biggest rock band on the 'Net", "worst leak in music history?" Give me a break. Perhaps they have that short-guy complex that some people have, and are compensating (the tallest guy in their band is about 5' 4).
