It appears to me as if the environment has become a trendy issue that people are supposed to be knowledgeble about. It has become almost the primary issue of Canadian politics, it seems. Yes indeed, we need to be more conscientious. But- I think that when politicians and corporations promise greener policies, they are making people miss the bigger picture, by accident or, more likely, by design.
When the environment becomes the number one policy, one would assume that people would level the blame squarely at the capitalist system, but instead they are fooled into thinking that by making more laws and regulations they can fix the problem without a radical change. It seems as if it's another case of crowd-pleasing government concessions to turn the public into good little cows again. People need to stop thinking that those suits can be trusted with the environment, and realise that the big picture
of exploitation is being ignored for the sake of this new green trend.
Anyone else see this?

i am doing a research on the industrial sustainability , about how to use enzymes and fungi to polute less , use less energy , less water and give more benefits to the industrial sector ... while making a first introduction about how it could be good to the economical sector , my teacher said " but u should know that first there is the political sector , then politics, the politics ... and one the tenth grade there is economic  "
well political persons should begin getting intrested to the subject because the earth's enviroment is getting from bad to worst, but still there is too little knowledge about biotechnology so it needs lots of time to spread worldwide ... but as my reasearch is going on , i am finding most of my documents in Canada (i am from lebanon ) on internet ... so i can see that its one of the most countroes that feels concerned at least on the scientific and economical level ... about the political level , i think that if they found some benefits they would adopt these technics and work with "greenpeace " :P and they will fall in love with green  (if it brings green money lol)

Populist rhetoric is what it is, sadly. :( Yet another way to get a vote.

The increasing mobility of international Capital is making all attempts by governments, especially in the developing world, largely redundant. The reason for this is that these countries largely rely upon the investement of Multi-National Corporations to ensure high levels of employment and economic growth, as there is not sufficient capital concentration in these countries for domestic manufacture to undergo growth.
Given that Multi-National Corporations seek to maximise their profits and have a large number of less-economically developed countries in which they can locate their production, if a single country tries to introduce regulation to safeguard the quality of the environment, they will sacrifice what appears to be the only way in which they can undergo development. This is comparable to the relationship that exists between Capitalists and Workers on a domestic level, where the existance of a reserve army of labour allows the Capitalist to determine the price of the worker's labour.
This shows that, at least in the developing world, Capital is able to overpower governments. This is of course not limited to environmental degredation and investement, and also extends to other economic issues, such as the regulation of labour conditions and wage rates.

Clearly the environment is the latest band wagon.
