This is from a photoseries said to have been taken by an American officer who visited China in 1939.
It's an example of public mass execution, - beheading. It will have been in nationalist China (Where else would US officers be?), whether the people executed were criminals, Japanese, or Communists is impossible to know, but from the scale of it and what went on in those days I suppose the most plausible idea is that they were captured Communists.
Kneeling and waiting for the end in front of the spectators.

where in the world do you get that idea from? from 1937 until the defeat of japan in ww2 the Kuomintang and Communists were allied with each other. let me say that again, the communists allied themselves with the nationalists, just as the united states did.

I didn't check for accuracy.
All text and photos were directly copied from a thread on another forum before it was deleted. He said he bought the photo set off of ebay, so revleft is privileged to several photos that can't be found elsewhere.
Additionally, it may very well have been communists, since the execution may potentially have been done outside of nationalist jurisdiction.

Whatever remained of the "alliance" was irrevocably destroyed in 1941, when Nationalist forces ambushed a Communist force.
As for the pictures, the executionees are probably criminals as any executions of Japanese would've been done by military officials. It's also doubtful that Jiang would go around executing suspected Communists; that would've been a show of bad faith.

1941
yes, but for the sake of the items in question that is irrelevant.

YEs you would rather they get crushed. And besides, the koumitang continued to backstab the commies.

There were numerous instances in which the KMT would despite the alliance kill communists. Thus, I would like to know who these people are who being executed, and who is executing them. Secondly, to be honest I did not find this post to be very graphic. I think that if one thinks that this is graphic then the sanitation by the media of the current situations in Iraq and Palestine has been very successful.
