I hear washington always speaking about this. that they want to find ways to produce energy, power or whatever other fuel sources, alternative sources.. so that they don't depend on foreign oil.
aren't all the american companies of gasoline in foreign countries and waters???? aren't they in bed with this private sectors???
so what do they mean and why would they not want to depend on them??

Talk is cheap. Americans like to hear about not buying oil from Saudi princes, but the reality is that Americans are addicted to gasoline, and if they want to stay addicted they need to buy it from those same people. IMO, it's basically lip service to what "should be done", but something that no one really wants to do. It's been done ever since the oil embargo in the 70's, because foreign countries can basically cripple American society on a whim.
Anyway, American companies are making far too much money to let anyone stop them from selling as much gas as they can.

a super liberal girl-friend of mine is always debating me. look what she wrote..
I am forced to drive more and more everyday. There are thousands of new roads being built everyday. General construction is at its all time high.
The more roads that are built, the more people can drive, the more money we spend on gas, the more gas we need, the more our dependency grows on foreigen oil companies. MORE REASON TO GO TO WAR

OPEC.
Basically, with such a vital resource in the hands of other, sometimes unstable governments, the US can be put in dangerous positions easily. That's why they have always tried to keep the oil producing countries of the world from getting uppity. As you can see, it is currently failing with Venezuela.

They've been stating that for around 4 decades. The sad truth is that the energy development budget is miniscule at around 2 billion.

The fossil fuel industry is obviously well-connected to the ruling elite so there's not much of a possiblity that our dependence on oil is going to go away soon. But that doesn't stop certain "green" politicians and environmentalists from continually lobbying for such measures.
