i was wondering if jobs like doctors or surgens fall into the division of labour? since these are jobs that require a high level of skill, doesent that suggest that the division of labour is SOMETIMES useful? wouldnt that require a lot of rethinking on our part?
im afraid i dont have a very strong grasp on the concept...

I think that the division of labor will always be necessary to a certain extent. This is because that the average human can only learn so much and do so much in one day. Thus, there will probably always be a great deal of pressure on highly skilled professionals to continually work in that profession not only because of the limited time that we have but also because such specialized skill is hard to come by. Of course, reducing and removing the division of labor is certainly going to happen for less skilled jobs and thus provide opportunities for people to branch out and fulfill their true potentials.

The division of labor is an essential source of economic growth and development. It can become, ultimately, inessential only to the extent that the bulk of the economy can be automated....but its hard to see how it can ever be eliminated. What one aims to elimnate is not the division of labor but the manner in which that becomes a basis for power structures.
