Ok please flame me if Im wrong but I was reading a book and I found out that Hellen keller was a socialist! For those of you who are not familiar with her she was suppose to be another "American Miracle" she was blind and deaf and survived and began to learn braile and was a genious blah blah fucking blah...anyway, in social studies we are all introduced to her in the I think 3rd grade. Its suppose to be a lovely story and a miracle and about how wonderful ppl in america are . Well when I foudn out she was a socialist I began to do some research. it turned out that after she became a socialist ppl stopped writing stories about her in the newspaper and what not. Of course they dont mention that to the kids because socialists are evil and stupid and deserve to die. I just wanted to know if anyone could back me up on this story or has any info or 2cents to add...would be great, but the main moral here is "AMERICANS SUCK AT PROPAGANDA!" it some how ties in....youll just have to look deep.

Actually, this is mentioned in the very wonderful book Lies My Teacher Told Me by Loewen. If you're in high school in the States, I strongly suggest you read it, along with Zinn's A People's History of the United States : 1492 to Present.

Loewen's book is especially fun to read, and, since it's an analysis of the most commonly used history textbooks in US schools, relevent for any who wish to humiliate the teacher.

Remember, folks, that teachers who seek to humiliate students are adults trying to compete with children. They are pathetic.
