I was wondering if anyone had any interesting articles, books or literature on these two topics. Or even a brief summary. Both preferably from a materialist/Marxian viewpoint. I think Trotsky has some writings on the period?
Thanks in advance.

Possibly not exactly what you are looking for, but perhaps it will be of some interest..?

There is an absolutely amazing book ...wish I could remember the name ..... a sort of sociological analysis about the ideology and songs and stories of the S.A. in the 1920s. If anyone knows the name they should post it.

Im actually reading Sebastian Haffner's "Failure of a Revolution Germany 1918-1919" right now. Its a brief little book about said revolution. Good so far, I picked it up off the internet for only $10.
"The Lost Revolution: Germany 1918-23" by Chris Harman is also worth looking into. But for a huge indepth study of that entire period in Germany I would look to Pierre Broue's "The German Revolution 1917-23". But before taking on this monumental work, I would suggest being somewhat familar with events, parties, and the like.
As for online content, you can find Rob Sewell's "Germany: From Revolution to Counter-Revolution" at
http://www.marxist.com/germany-counter-rev...ise-fascism.htm (http://www.marxist.com/germany-counter-revolution-rise-fascism.htm)
And Revolutionary History has an issue dedicated to this period of German history found at

Vol 2 No 3.
