I'm relatively fond of the station myself, as far as American political propaganda goes.. well I've most certainly seen worse ;)
If nothing else, it keeps me somewhat informed.
I take the information they present, filter it, and when applicable, find out the real truth. :P
what do you guys think?
Any better stations to offer?
Also, have any of you seen the CNN interviews, Iraq: The Hidden Wars?
If so, what did you think?
Thank you for posting. Thanks for sharing your opinions with me. Thanks for informing me! :D :D

I think all news stations especially in the us, are biased to either side of the american political spectrum, and I wouldn't subscribe, or put all my trust into a station, but get my information from there possibly, and then do further research, and then make my position.
As to better stations, if you want a good laugh, fox never lets you down, ;) :P .

Id sugest not watching any news tv channel. Most of the time its the same shit repeated every half hour or its some ridiculous opinion program. If your going to pay attention to mainstream news media the best thing to do is to take a look at multiple news websites and compare the information given. I check BBC World News, CNN, Fox, Reuters, and Al Jazeera once a day.

The problem with American CNN and every American news source is the depth and span on its coverage. If you want to understand this, simply compare the content of "American" CNN and CNN International, you will be suprised to find that CNN International will report stories that never make it to the American television, and even then it is limited.
Also negative is the issue of style, American cable news networks are too flashy, loud and eccentric, with countless flashing and flipping 3-d graphics and startling sound effects. It takes away from the information and turns the presentation into an ADHD extraveganza.
The BBC is by far superior. Their television reports are calm and sober, and in 30 minutes have more content and information than 3 hours of CNN. Also their website is superior, outlining the entire world into contients in which you can find dozens of reports that although irrelevant to American opinion can have deep consequences on the rest of the world.
Al jazeera is also very good for being quite blunt and uncensored in providing coverage. But most importantly shop around, you'd be amazed what you'd find out from news providers in India, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Russia, Germany, South Africa and countless other countries.

They've taken a slightly more left-wing (by US standards) viewpoint recently, but they're still sensationalist crowd-pleasers. As corporate media they have an unwritten goal of perpetuating the current system.

BBC beats out any American corporate news station by far, though I still don't quite trust them either.
I stick mainly to independent news:

There really isn't a great deal of selection when it comes to TV news though I would prefer BBC News over CNN. Although I've heard that Al-Jazeera is very good, I don't think that they broadcast through the US television system.

The New York Times is a solid American publication. The Economist is a fucking-solid British publication. Both have websites.
Television media isn't meant for in depth analysis, but rather sound bites. Thus no matter what the stations political agenda, is will always be a partial picture.

CNN is no better than any other bourgeois media source. I would recommend trying to find independent news sources out there, dogwoodlover listed some great sites to find quality information on a large range of topics.
If you have access to it, I would recommend watching or listening to Democracy Now. They have an hour long broadcast on hundreds of different TV and radio channels across the world, and provide an excellent source of information in a short ammount of time. I think they have the show on their site, too.

CNN is terrifying propaganda. It tries to scare white suburban americans in every way it can trying to make them think that everyone is out to kill them. I cannot believe someone on this forum would even consider it as honest subjective news. Do you know the filters that every story goes through before reaching the telescreens of the american masses? AIPAC anyone??
Then there is the blatant theatre of it all, the music they play, the jingoistic rah-rah americana flashing by. Terror alert orange. terrorists here, terrorists there, terrorists everywhere. It is propaganda that would put Goebbles to shame, and if you cant see that than I pity you. It fabricates, televises, and sustains myths of democracy and americas role of good in the world. Then there are the commercials, watching them you know your in enemy territory. Big banks releying financial figures. Jingoistic commercials about security and the american dream. Its pathetic. I live in Canada, and our news stations work in dramatically different ways. Propaganda they may be, but at least they dont try to make me fear for my life with every story, or play that ridiculous patriotic tunes. Or show canadian flags waving in the sideline. CNN is pathetic. We dont get FOX news or any of that garbage up here, so my views on American News are based on CNN, and with that, you are living in an Orwellian hellhole. The amount of TV an American watches weekly is appauling. You do what it tells you, even if you dont know it, because practically everything on TV is subtle subliminal propaganda, and if you are media literate, youll spot this in no time flat.
As for CNN, I have devised a few games for it.
Sit around watching CNN with some buddies, everytime they mention the terrorists, 9/11, Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda, terror alert levels, or any of that trash, take a hit of the bong. The name of the game: Suicide Bong
Same thing but anytime they try to scare you with the terrorist boogeyman, take a shot of whatever liqour you like best: Al-Qaedaholic
This is about all CNN is good for. It is pathetic to think that there are people in this world so stupid to think that what CNN says is factual information. Absolutely pathetic and terrifying.
You want a real unbiased and subjective news agency, its called Al Jazeera. No kidding, look at its website.

Just to give a sample of how subjective CNN is, think about this, how much time did they give the the Oaxaca uprising, now compare that to amount of covage they gave the Donald Trump/Rosie O'Donnell fued. hmmmm. Mass uprising completely challenging fabric of society and an attempt to liberate an entire city and create a whole new social system that was burtally crushed by the state and its poliece forces vrs. 2 celebrities arguing about giving a beauty queen a pardon for making out with chicks, guess what wins.
CNNs political analysis and economic analysis is ALWAYS Democrat vrs Republican and ALWAYS free markets vrs. Protectionism, everything within the framework. I actually think CNN is getting almost as bad as FOX.
Just like any Corporate news station they are in it for Profit, its entertainment, and guess what, real news does'nt make Corporate sponsers happy.

Nicely put
I prefer and feel more informed by catching half an hour of BBC, then in listening to those stupid fucks over at FOX, CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS rant about how good America is

CNN is way too bias, just like any other News channel.
I watch Democracy Now! here and there when i get the chance. (It's not bias)

I tend to stay away from TV news (with the exception of the Daily Show and Colbert Report) and get my news from the internet. For local news, indymedia is great. For national and some international I use www.rawstory.com and of course, the BBC.

CNN is biased is favor of the US government and Israel as all the 24 hour news networks in the US are. They aren't as bad as FOX, but that's not saying much.

All news medias are biased in some form or another (some wayyyy more then others). DO NOT check only one new source....even if it is leftist. The benefit of viewing, listening, or reading news from cnn, fox, etc....is that you can see what information the average news audience is getting. Its a great way to see the link between current trends in public opinion and politics and how much of a HUGE influence they have.
If you want something thatll make you laugh (and sickened at the same time)...check bill oriellys "talking points"....cracks me up everytime.
Question everything

I think CNN is full of hypocrites, selling capitalist policies with a smilie face taped on to any hill-billie with a TV, Lou Dobbs' war on the middle class, he is one of the corperate (how to put it nicely...) Assholes he complains about, while just a year ago he was Bushes little Ass wipe, now suddenly Bush isn't perfect :o omfg... of course so are most stations, given a choice I'd pick the BBC or CBC any day...

I'm not a big fan of television news because you usually hear only 13 seconds of a story. I'm much more inclined toward internet news because it is more in-depth, free, and there is a wide range of view points covered.

Over in the UK Channel 4 news is generally pretty good but the best news show to watch is Newsnight on BBC2. American News seems to be very diluted, besides all news has to be looked at objectively the media largely decides what to report on. As an example I'm sure my UK comrades have noticed a resent spat of news reports regarding attacks by dogs. It' enough to make anyone think that dogs have suddenly gone mad! Yet the reality is that these incidents happen all the time but the media reacts to popular demand. Nows it's dogs before it was the UK's rising 'Knife Culture' <_<

Man I have to agree...cant stand that fucker...along with anderson cooper and the rest of those so called News shows. DO NOT WATCH THOSE TYPES OF SHOWS. They provide no information at all but their opinion through what is called "unbiased news". HA!. If your going to watch one of those shows then watch Bill Oreilly on Fox news...it'll make either make you sooooo pissed that you'll want to go burn his house down or make you laugh so hard youll die from lack of oxygen.
If your going to watch TV news..which i sugest you dont, then watch the normal stuff and ignore the shows.

First of all, never trust anybody. Even if it is Democracy Now!, never trust them. Formulate your own opinions, because for all you know, they could have fucked up.
Question everything you hear, even if it's unrelated to socialism. 2+2 was unrelated, and look at 1984.
