What are your personal goals in perspective to world and local social, political, economic and philosophical standpoints?

I want to get the word out, make connections, change some perspectives, and open some minds. I want to protest things that strike me as wrong, and I want to prove that some day people will see that they've been screwed over since the dawn of time, and that they can change it together without having to repeat the bloody mistakes of the past century.

I want to fight the good fight against hatred, racism, oppresion, and poverty. To put it bluntly, I wanna kill Nazis

I want to make the world more open minded and less uninformed about what is going on.

I want to be free to do as I want. I want to be less inhibited. I don't want to worry about paying bills. I don't want to have to worry about work. I don't want to have to worry about the government. I don't want to feel exploited or oppressed. I don't want someone to stop me from doing what I want.

I can understand your contempt for bills and taxes - you could say that it is what everyone wants. But is it really possible to have a world without work? This would mean the relegation of the proletariat. Without this working class, the world will come to a standstill - society would implode with greed and crime.

I think (s)he meant that (s)he doesn't want to have to worry about work in the sense that everyone works tirelessly and sees so little from it and that (s)he is sick of it and wants to work for (her)himself and (her) his community. Sorry FoB not sure if you are male of female so didn't want to assume.

Yeah, I want to inform people. Preferably not only by talking, but by art such as music. Basically, I just want to make a difference for the good of the world and humanity.

Educate everyone and take emphasis off of entertainment. And by entertainment I mean ridiculous bullshit media, magazines about paris hilton, etc.

Long term: To educate, inform and entertain as many people as I possibly can. To ensure a higher quality of life, free from the taint of exploitation, oppression and poverty for the current and the future generations.
To attend more meetings and demos when I get a little older/go to uni. Inactivity leads to alienation from the workers, and the last thing the Left needs right now are ivory-tower intellectuals, sitting in their comfy armchairs and stroking their facial hair, dithering "What is to be done of this blasted system?"

Short-term: Get at least 1 more person on the Left. Oh, and to push a Tory down the stairs ;) . If the Olympics continued into Socialism/Communism, I think it should be recognised as an event.

I want to show people the alternative, make people open their eyes and think for themselves without being told what to clothes to buy, music to listen to, latest "celebrity" to follow. I want people to realise that they don't have to be stuck in a system where they work, the boss makes lots of money, and "that's life". I want people to be aware that the world extends further than their television screens, glossy magazines, and national borders. I want people to know that we were all born naked and equal and that there is no reason why that should change. I want people to open their eyes and realise that governments are just regular people who are mad for power and money, and that we need not be afraid of them whatsoever.

I want people to know that if we all work together we can change the world.

Wow, Lithium, very profound. The purpose of this thread was very simple; I wanted to show myself and others that, although we all consider ourselves to be in different sects and even parties, we all want to do pretty much the same thing, and that is to work for the greater good of humanity and the world.
Going into the 9th grade, I wanted to be a lawyer, make 200k+ a year, and move to the west coast to live the easy life until I died in my sleep of old age...(soz my comp only lets me go this far...)

My family was never really 'well off', but my dad was good with money, so I get a great education in a private school. However, I do work study to help pay tuition, although I don't really mind it. On my first day of cleaning out the locker room, I found a black T-shirt with a red portrait on it. After an hour of web surfing, I identified El Che as the strange red portrait. So for about a year, I idolised men like Che and Lenin, happily calling myself a Communist. Then I called myself a socialist...

What I'm really trying to get to is that all I was doing for the past 4 years was looking for a group and a label to go along with it. Now I have realised that only your beliefs and your actions matter, and that it is only counter-productive to worship leaders and revolutionaries. It is much more effective to learn from great revolutionaries such as Nelson Mandela, who has, in a positive way, affected the future of the world...

Now I appologise for my long-winded and multi-windowed explanation, but both were necessary and unavoidable. I hope that my posts have helped at least one person out there, and to thank anyone patient enough to read this.

Question everything
29th January 2007, 20:55
:D yay I read it first :P wow that was long winded, and you really need to quadruple post??? :P but yea my parents were always liberal (by that I mean liberal party like the democrats in america), they were pretty open minded and encouraged me to look into history and politics (but they have no idea just how far left I am) so I eventually looked at socialism and the world today (8 th grade) and I said wow, socialism seems to make a hell of alot more sense than what we have now... so I printed off the manifesto read it, and not long after stumbled on to this site...

Jude
29th January 2007, 23:20
Yeah, sorry again about the quadruple post, but as the only acess to the web I have is on a PSP, which only allows one to type a certain amount of characters at a time, it was unavoidable.

On a more direct note... How long have you been able to consider yourself a socialist? Why have you chosen Socialism (or whatever party you belong to)?

I seek to eradicate our current theocracy in favor of a secular government which cares about and takes care of its citizens. I believe this is only possible with some form of socialism. I wish to do this in a non-violent fashion, but I recognize that it is entirely possible that violence will result from this. I believe that this sacrifice is a neccessary one, but if there were any possible way to stage a successful revolution without violence, I would love to adopt it. I also believe that religion is to have no place in society. The religious have proven themselves to me to be almost wholly intolerant and deleterious to the effort of the revolution, at least the revolution which would help society. We must also eradicate the unacceptable levels of pollution which cause global warming, practice eugenics to control our population, and seriously explore the idea of space travel to insure the survival of the human race, even after this earth has ceased to support it.

Marx put it this way. "I am selfish I want everything. I am selfless I want to share everything". I want nothing less or more, but personally I want more good fortune in love, but to be sure that is only human.

Lenin's efforts were largely unsuccessful in that Stalin twisted his teachings into a means to further Stalin's own power. Mandela helped overthrow the racist apartheid government in South Africa. I'd say that's affecting the world in a positive way. Lenin could have really helped the world, but Stalin not only twisted Lenin's teachings, he also forever cursed the word "Communism" with a terrible connotation.

I didn't mean that Lenin didn't affect the world in a positive way, but only that Mandela is not mainly viewed as a politician.

If I could, which I don't see myself as being capable right now in my life, right now my goals are to study and have a lot of knowledge so i can someday apply that knowledge. If I achieve the first of my goals, I will hopefully someday help people see that capitalism is not the answer. somehow i will try to make an impact, probably a revolutionary one. I think that would probably come with time , though.. during my lifetime.. i think what i will achieve will be obvious in a few years of time.
