View Full Version : RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE REUNITES!

Red October
22nd January 2007, 16:22
Rage Against the Machine, the seminal L.A. band that made heavy music into political manifesto, will reunite after a seven-year lull for one show as the headliners at the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Sources say Rage, which played the main stage at the first Coachella in 1999, will be joined by other familiar faces for the eighth edition of the festival, which covers three days this year and begins April 27: Red Hot Chili Peppers, which headlined in 2003, are back, as is Björk, who topped the bill in 2002.

Organizers were mum this weekend and it was not clear which day Rage or the other acts were slotted to play; that announcement is expected in the next few days. Other acts expected in the eclectic lineup: Arcade Fire, Interpol, Willie Nelson, the Roots, Manu Chao, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Air, Tiësto and Kings of Leon.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, via Ticketmaster. Three-day passes will cost about $250 and there will be a limited number of single-day passes available.

The headliners are not novel, but they are potent. The Peppers are up for their first best album Grammy right now, and Björk remains a mesmerizing figure to fans of avant pop. But in Southern California rock circles, there is very little that could compete with the excitement of a Rage Against the Machine reunion. The quartet's hybrid of funk, rap, metal and leftist ideology was as subtle as a Molotov cocktail; in the 1990s, its aggro-anthems made it the only band that mattered to a fan base that included East L.A. protest kids as well as those in Hollywood punk circles, college dorms and mainstream rock festival mosh pits, where politics were secondary to the group's feral energy.

The band is vocalist Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk. Their split came amid rumors of bad blood between De la Rocha and his mates, who went on to work with Chris Cornell in Audioslave. However, Morello and De la Rocha appeared together at a 2005 rally for the urban farmers of a South Los Angeles community garden.

I might actually be going. A cousin of mine is having her wedding that same weekend. I have never actually met her, and figure, why break tradition? I will be about 30 min from where the fest is going down.

Tix are mighty expensive though.

I will be sure to bring a camera (vid and still) in.

Look at this sick band list of others playing!:
Busdriver
Avett Bros.
Wille Nelson
Red Hot Chile Peppers
The Decemberists
Arcade Fire
Interpol
The Coup
the black keys
The Nightwatchman
!!!
Ghostface Killah
DJ shadow
Sonic youth

Sorry, but Rage were nothing but mediocre and that is being generous. They released one reasonably good (though not special) album then turned to utter shit. They are easily one of the most over-rated bands of all time.

Ya that would be awesome if they had a cross-country tour, I'd still have to cross the border though. As things are its a long way from central canada to california. If I wasn't in school, then hell I'd be hitchin my way down there in minute.

Kia
24th January 2007, 06:10
Coachella prices may seem ridiculous but actually theyre not that bad at all. You can usually see about 8-10 bands per day and so over 3 days that makes the cost of seeing each band about 10$ or less! Some of these bands easily cost 40-50$ bucks to see most of the time, so really....coachella is unbelievably cheap (just dont buy the food there).

From what I hear though, this will be the only show Rage Against the Machine will be doing. :(

Their MUSIC, yes, but Zach made rage. He was a living embodiment of rage (the emotion). He could be charismatic if he looked like Dawn French and sounded like John Major.
YAY zach fanboy. If only he was still in his early 20's

I think someone in another Rage thread (lol, theres quite a few) asked when Zach's rap record was coming out. I have no idea, that thing has been in the music equivalent of like "development hell" or something. Anyway, to soothe over the passions of all you rage fans (in case you haven't heard this before), Zach and DJ Shadow released a song called "March of Death" about the Iraq War. You can download it here: http://www.zackdelarocha.com/

Battle of Mexico City I got at best buy. It has a great extened version of Freedom.

The other one is a "home" DVD called "Rage Against the Machine". It has some unreleased music videos, a whole bunch of live shows, and a poem by Zack. I also got it at best buy.
