i had a 2GB nano for almost a year, but its battery life got really short towards the end so i replaced it with the 30GB.

I used to have a 2gb Creative Zen but they are just shit. You can get a load of music on them, but they mess up a lot and the reset button is far too fragile.

2gig iPod nano. What I really hate about the new design is that they put this really weak layer of aluminum (?) around it and if you drop it at all, the coating gets seriously scratched. And if you're stupid, you can cut your hand on it. Not fun.

I'd like to get something with more space though. 2GB turns into 1.75 formatted; stupid marketeers.

ipods aren't horrible, they are a different way to carry around music. why do you have a computer, one of the biggest items to consumers today? do you have a cd player, why did you follow that fad. my arguments could go on forever.

Portable cassette player. OLD SKOOL.

Red October
21st January 2007, 22:07
30gb translates into about 27.65 formatted, but its more than enough. once i upgraded from a 2GB nano to 30GB, it felt strange. i was so used to stripping down my music collection to the bare essentials so it would fit, but now i can just cram all the shit i want on there. its nice having breathing space.

and i do get shit from some people about being a leftist with an ipod, but i dont see it as being very different from owning anything else. its just a more advanced music technology, and the ipod is an excellent mp3 player. if apple makes a solid product, should we choose a shittier alternative just because lots of other people we dont agree with own one too? if its a superior product, just go with it.

I got a 20 Gig Creative Zen Sleek Photo (as a gift), It is definitally more convenient than having a cd player and having to carry about 30 cd's on me at all times. I'm more addicted to music than I am to cigarettes, no joke

I have a 20 GB iPod. My former minidisc player (do they even sell those anymore?) was very inefficient as I actually had to send it to repairs five times, and I got a new one twice. Therefore the iPod is grand, its user friendly and it doesnt break too easily, plus I love being able to carry with me my entire music collection at all times. Its like upgrading from DOS to Vista.

There is something funny about a leftist listening to Rage Against the Machine on an iPod though...

It'd be OK if iPod's weren't so LOUSY though, they break all the fucking time. I've had this tape player for years, it's got character y'know. I actually have some iPod head phones stuck in so I can be down with the kids like.

My iPod broke once when I dropped it on the concrete from 5 feet up. Luckily I had purchased a 2 year warranty with it (I usually never buy those extra warranties). It hasn't broken since and I consider it reliable.

I have an old Sony Walkman that probably still works. I've considered retrofitting it so I could stick my iPod mini inside of it and walk around with an old-school Walkman instead of an iPod. I haven't found the time to do that though, but I would get great street cred.

i had my nano for a year and it never broke. i dropped it on hard surfaces all the time, i even dropped it in the toilet once (luckily there was nothing in the toilet) and it was fine. ipods are really user friendly and reliable. i have a walkman too, but the shock protection doesnt work anymore so it skips all the time unless its perfectly still.

For all of you who thought having a portable music player with a turntable try this on for size:

I've got a sandisk 1Gb player/fm/voice recorder. I like it because it is flash mem as opposed to a hard drive. Hard drives still aren't meant to be carried about and banged around. Stick with a memory one if you can.

Yes, definitely get an iPod. If you get a Walkman (especially the regular plastic ones) they'll turn off every time you step down too hard. I couldn't even walk 15 minutes to school without the freaking player turning off at least 5 times without warning.

thats one of the best reasons to get an mp3 player. its just much more convenient not to carry around tons of CDs and not have to deal with the frustration of the song skipping.

people call me me that, but i dont see the problem with choosing to use a superior product over a crappier one. if you chose the crappier one just so you could feel like you were going against a trend, you would be letting other people's opinions dictate your choices in life.
