Certainly Britney Spears and all her vapid "artistic" colleagues churn out such useless rubish.

Prolefeed
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Prolefeed is a Newspeak term in the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. It was used to describe the heaps of useless literature, movies and music which were produced by Prolesec, a section of the Ministry of Truth, to keep the "proles" (i.e., proletariat) content. A quote from the novel illustrates it:

“ And the Ministry had not only to supply the multifarious needs of the party, but also to repeat the whole operation at a lower level for the benefit of the proletariat. There was a whole chain of separate departments dealing with proletarian literature, music, drama, and entertainment generally. Here were produced rubbishy newspapers containing almost nothing except sport, crime and astrology, sensational five-cent novelettes, films oozing with sex, and sentimental songs which were composed entirely by mechanical means on a special kind of kaleidoscope known as a versificator. There was even a whole sub-section -- Pornosec, it was called in Newspeak -- engaged in producing the lowest kind of pornography, which was sent out in sealed packets and which no Party member, other than those who worked on it, was permitted to look at. ”

The term prolefeed has been used in recent years by critics to describe news about famous celebrities (or the tabloids and magazines which publish them) or excessive sports coverage.

Jade Goodey. She's famous for being on Big Brother and losing, being stupid, writing an autobio, and most recently being racist.

I hated Jade Goodey before it was cool. I'm so rocknroll!

Aye, what a waste of headline cover space. Needless to point out Lohan is not that attractive. Have you seen your local evening news? They have as their headline news about some poor bloke who got run over by a truck. It's nonsense.

I hate this kind of cultural snobbery. <_<

I loathe the belief that ignorance is not only a point of view, it's something to be proud of. I don't just mean big ignorance, but little things like people who look contemptously at others, tsk, and say something like "I don't watch Sci Fi/sports/the news/realilty tv or read books/comics/gossip mags" in a way that lets you know that they never even tried, can't be bothered, and not-so-subtly look down on you for not doing the same.

People have different interests and enjoy different things, and it doesn't make people more conscious/clever/cultured or anything else. Just different. And just because you don't enjoy something doesn't mean it's 'prolefeed', any more than any other hobby people have.

Ya know if we keep fighting pop culture instead of Capitalism will never get anywhere. I like the show Full Metal Alchemist if thats "prole feed" I consider it delicious.

Pop culture is a slave of capitalism. Compare the number of people in Che t's with how many of them are marxists.
Hip-hop in the 80's was somrthing radical and subversive; realising the threat to capitalism, the record companies made it marketable. Now look at it...
Punk very similar in the late 70's.
How many anti-caps do they play on, say, Chris Moyles?
Ever since the 60's the cappies viewed the young as a threat, and turned them round. Rebellious conformity.

What would the use of fighting it do? Can't we both enjoy pop culture and realize some of it is bull shit propaganda? Like why can't I watch Seinfeld and be a communist?

What do you sggest we do? Burn all of it in a pile?

Angry Young Man

Quite how you go about enjoying Chris Moyles when your IQ is above 65.
Gives people a bad impression of northerners.

La Comédie Noire

I dont even know who Chris Moyles is, thanks for just assuming, and i dont really give a shit what people think of northerners. I hate this bull shit attitude people like you aquire about being intellectually "pure". You just end up disconnecting yourself from the working class or anyone else for that matter. Nice way to be a snob.

Look I understand.

24 = Nationalistic bull shit

American Idol = Brainless

But we should'nt look down on people who can recognize this and still enjoy it.

Oh you're American. Sorry. Chris Moyles is a fucking moron of a dj who thinks he's funny. He's an arse (ass for your benefit) whose humour derives from taking the piss out of his co-hosts.
And in Britain, the southerners (that is south of Birmingham) have a negative attitude to the northerners (Sheffield/Liverpool upwards).
But you must admit popular radio does get pretty repetitive.
And glossies (celebrity gossip magazines).

Have you guys read Michael Parenti's book Make-Believe Media: The Politics of Entertainment. In that book he analyses a lot of movies and television shows and warns readers to really pay attention to what the establishment is trying to do with these sitcoms. I highly recommend this book. For example, he looks at Rambo III where Rambo aids the "freedom fighters" of Afghanistan which were a bunch of fundamentalist killers and opium traders. It's crazy. That was an obvious example. Parenti goes on to analyse more popular sitcoms like Archie Bunker, Saturday morning cartoons and a lot more. He looks how Blacks and Latinos and women are portrayed. Very interesting read! It'll leave you howling mad with rage.

I'll take a look.

And am I the only one who thinks they might as well just change the name of most popular fashion mags to "Aryan Women Today"?

A lot of stuff in the American media thats suppost to be "against" society is kind of weak and watered down.

Yea I noticed the irony that there is a beauty magazine called "Cosmopolitan" when every month the front cover is a white woman.
