To Comrades in England

An Indian Actress Shilpa shetty has been discriminated in a TV show. There had been a lot of protests here regarding this today. What do you make of this ? An famous Indian Actress(She was a hottest actress a dream girl of many Indians in 90's) cannot escape this disgusting act in a TV show means I shudder at the possible treatment of common people that might go unnoticed.

Could any of you comrades give me more details of what actually happened in the show ? How does the TV station justifies this ?

The only source available for me right now is source (http://www.google.co.in/url?q=http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/5967_1902656,001600060001.htm&sa=X&oi=news&ct=result&cd=1&usg=__9LJWaLCzPM8eetjsakqRaBY779s=)

What is the media's response to this matter comrades.

It seems that the name of the show is called Big Brother. What type of show is it ? Is it a live show ? How did this situation arised ? what is the reason for others to abuse her ?

The media in the UK have largely condemed the things that were said. Although not as obviously racist as direct racial insults the things that have been said are clearly derogatory and based on cultural ignorance.

Some have tried to use this as an excuse for the behaviour though if ignorance of the law is no excuse for crime the ignorance of culture is clearly no excuse for racism.

The show refered to is a live show where 'celebreties' spend 14 days in a house under the gaze of cameras 24/7

The three people making the comments are largely childish infact quite sad nobodies and to be honest I think most of their insults stem from the fact that they're jealous a Shilpa is clearly incredibaly attractive.

I guess it really depends on what was said exactly because there seem to be conflicting reports about what the controversy is over.

eh if people are truely accusing the cast of big brother (which is a show were people aren't very nice to each other) of being "racist" for making fun of her accent i think thats really crossing the lines of politically correct absurdities. British people make fun of each others accents all the time, in fact making fun of regional or class or educational based accents in the UK is an almost standard mild insult...it would say more about a fixation on race to avoid her accent if they wanted to make fun of her.

looking for racism when its not there as a means of consolidating racial subcultural identity is not progressive! People do not get emancipated by hypersensitivity where they look for their own victimization, that just leads to a more divided, less integrated, society with greater social distance between artificially created identity groups. Wanting special sensitivities to be reflected in people's treatment is itself a form of liberal racism.

If Jack Tweed really called her a "paki" that would obviously be racist but apparently that was never on the air and the produces insist that he never said that.

In any case i haven't watched any of this season of big brother so i have no idea what the actual content is i'm just responding to what i've read.

Hopefully this will mean the end of the trash that is (I'm Not Even a Z-List) Celebrity BB and the normal BB. An added bonus will be the end of Jade Goody and her little friends' "careers" - three morons we hopefully won't be hearing of in the media ever again.

As for Shilpa, I think that, although the bullying was mainly rascist, it was also in part just jealousy - Shilpa is a very attractive woman and actually has a reason to be a "celebrity" as she is an actress.

What does her being a '*****' have to do with anything? Being a '*****' (whatever that means in this context) isn't a justification for racism or bullying, so why even mention it?

because if you poke a tiger with a stick you get bitten or even mauled her actions caused a response weather or not it was justified it would'nt have happened at all if shilpa had of been a nice pleasant person that is why its relavant

I don't think this was a 'class' issue, due to Jade's circumstances she is surrounded by people who are very high class. She was jealous of Shilpa because Shilpa was a black sheep and she never gave Jade the attention that the other girls gave her, not even in the form of bad attention like a full on argument from Shilpa.

I hope Jade is put out of business - She obviously said comments that are not acceptable especially from someone in the public eye who is an entertainer to many kids & teenagers.

However, the other 2 girls, in particular Joe, was also racist it's only because Jade made one hell of a scene.
