What is your opinion on him. I almost hope he will be prime minister [impossible] only to see what would happen. :P

He's a dick. I saw him give a talk at my University in October and it was the most mind numbing anti-Iraq (because we've never heard anything about Iraq being bad before) BS. He should have used his platform for putting forward progressive ideas , instead he just ranted around cliches. And the whole Big Brother incident, hm. Nuff said.

I like him. He is a man of many faults it has to be said, principally an ego larger than several planets, but ultimately he has dedicated a huge amount of energy to fighting for the right thing. Plus he is very good at getting socialist views a mainstream airing.

I like him simply for stating that Christopher Hitchens is a slug to his face.
Priceless.

What was the purpose of that speech?

Isn't Galloway just a mere careerpolitician who traded his labourmembership with one in RESPECT? I remember how he went against the "a workers mp on a workers wage". Seems he can't function if he doesn't live a posh life.

Ur, you asked for my view of Galloway, I gave it? Isn't that the point?

Maybe he was talking about the speech Galloway gave.

Ur, there is no mention of any speeches by Galloway in the thread?
What is your opinion on him?
Thats the question like.

The link below shows his voting record in Parliament -

Personally, I don't think we should consider him a socialit. A Social Democrat, maybe, but he is too in love with his image and with parliamentary politics.

There was that whole thing about him having what ammounted to a casting vote on a certain subject (it fails me right now, a Terrorism or ID cards bill maybe?) but he was too 'busy' promoting himself in the Republic of Ireland to vote. Urgh. The man is repulsive.

I would love to see him as PM but I doubt it. Did you see him own Sky news? That is why I love him that was great.

A good debater does not a good Prime Minister make, the man would make an awful Prime Minister. He isn't a progressive, so don't kid yourself. He may be a better PM then Blair, Brown etc but only be default. Reformism doesn't work.

That was only for the Bills first reading. He was in Parliament for it's second reading when it was defeated.

I would like to see it, by the same sadistic glee that makes eleven year olds put guinea pigs in microwave ovens. JTSWH. :P

This is why George Galloway will never be PM or gain any respect. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoMZWxPUC_c&mode=related&search=)

I find the robot dance far more amusing, the cat-thing just makes me cringe.

The entire man makes me cringe, I'd like someone to smash in his 'pretty' face.

Frankly I'm not bothered if he once wore a leotard or did a cat impression to raise money for some charity.
Reasons why I like Galloway:
- Speaking out against the plight of the Palestinian people at a time when most of the world knew nothing of it
- Speaking out against the Saddam regime and other Arab dictatorships, for example Saudi Arabia even during the time they were in bed with the USA and Britain
- Saving the life of young Mariam Hamza, a young Iraqi girl who was seriously ill (or Saddam's secret weapon as the press called her), in the Mariam Appeal and at the same time drawing attention to the suffering caused to the Iraqi people by the criminal UN imposed sanctions
- Although he was not the only Labour MP to oppose the war on Iraq he was the only one who went to such lengths to avoid it, even visiting Hussein in 2002 to try to persuade him to let Hans Blix back in to the country to inspect for weapons
- Going through hell and back from the New Labour/neocon/right-wing propaganda onslaught which criticized him for trying to alleviate the misery of others, namely the Palestinians and the Iraqis, but also the British Muslims whose rights are frequently under attack in today's political climate
- Being a great speaker, debater and writer
...to name but a few.

He's not a progressive though, so what's the point in supporting him?

How do you define progressive?
Hate Is Art
19th January 2007, 14:51
I was using it as a synonym for Marxist. Not as a term for general leftism.

Yeah it is, sorry. I just don't see the point in supporting him when it will do nothing. It wouldn't be so bad if his personality was a bit less repugnant and vainglorious and a bit more humble. It's just his whole 'God's gift to the left' thing he has going on that pisses me off.
