My name is
I'm the vocalist for the band MECHANICAL SUN. We're a political rock group out of California and we're looking to hook up with other leftist bands or performers to start setting up politically themed shows throughout the state. As a political group we find it difficult to find a place among the other bands, because our message is so strong that it turns some people off. As a music fan myself I would love to be able to hear and play with other political bands. We feel that reaching out to the people with music will encourage them to become more active in the movement, plus the networking and socializing would be a good thing for solidarity. If you know of anyone who might be interested in something like this, please send them my way.

Well... on the local level it turns people off, especially where we are. Most people in our area are still stuck in the 50's with no idea how to think for themselves. Plus, it's alot easier for people to accept a message from a band that is already famous. You know how Americans are... if it's not on t.v. or the radio it doesn't mean much. But we're workin on it.

Yeah, but they still only appeal to a minority and aren't exactly mainstream. For example, John Lennnon's apolitical songs always did better than his political ones.

Thats my point... the only reason they are popular is because they are at least SOMEWHAT mainstream and on major labels. Think of how many political bands there must be in America... life is hard when you speak the truth, or scream it at the top of your lungs in my case... everyone here should know that.

Plus we won't wear shiny shirts, or wear our girlfriends' pants, or frost our hair to fit the rock star mold... that holds us back too HAHAHA

First of all, who doesn't like a little Rage here and there. Second, music is the voice of our generation. It's the only part of our culture that everyone take an interest in. I've had this idea of a music movie about "humanity". it shows all the wrongs of the world, the evils of capitalism, ignorance to other cultures and people, how fear controls us all in some way, and that the ones in poower everywhere use it against the people. It's kind of got a theme like Pink Floyd's "The Wall". The main character comes home from a long day, and when he slams the door the music starts. There are no lyrics, just a movie that shows what each song is about. In the end he faces his fear and lead his generation in to the sun rise to revolt. The movie will show statistics from each topic in the movie. The last state is a quote i came up with "If their ears(government) shall go deaf to our voices(voting), let us speak a language they better understand(war)". This is shown as the crowd of people march into the sun rise. The movie will be called "To Be Human" and hopefully it makes our generation ralize if we dont change things, we may not have another hope left. I have the songs all on my guitar, and that pretty much what all the music will be. For live shows I'd just show the movie on a huge screen, have some light and lasers going, and play my guitar to it. The songs are perfect for the movie. It's what I call "Psychodelic Metal" and the name of the band would be "Red Psychal". If i could have any help at all to get this out, I think it could have an impact on this generation and how we will come to handle things.

I read your blog entry "Why I am a revolutionary Patriot" and I want to know why it is so important for you to identify as an 'American'?

We're a political rock

What are your politics?

Don't read too much onto it man... it just so happens that we live in the United States of America, therefore we are technicaly Americans. This country was in fact stolen from it's original inhabitants but what's done is done and we cannot change the past only work towards a better future. As the most prosperous nation in the world we should be setting and example for the rest of the world to follow. Yet, it seems that all we do is ***** and whine about things we do not have the guts to change, and let our corrupt leaders frighten us into submission. We have it all in America... the people should reclaim the power and start putting it to good use around the world. Oh and by the way we are socialists.

I know that anarchist standpoints are quite different than socialist ones, but when it comes down to it we are all comrades in the fight to change the current system. As a matter of fact there is a anarchist group near me that we commune with quite often.

hmm good music :)

and what the others meant to say was who cares if you're american or not, it should make no difference. Also this whole thing about being an example for the rest of the world, well thats pretty arrogant to be honest, to think that you can "light the way". Pretty much neocon thinking, no offense.

"As the most prosperous nation in the world we should be setting and example for the rest of the world to follow"

I mean, come on.

we are all comrades in the fight to change the current system

no, we fight to destroy the system and build a new one, not change the current one.
The structure is rotten, no replastering!

Give him a break. He's clearly not as well versed in (or understanding of) radical leftist political theory as some of us... no reason to harrass the fellow.

I'm glad you're interested and involved in socialist activism. I suggest you read more of the stuff on this forum, the learning forum, and the theory forum. Also looks for some Marx, it's a good place to start.

First off... I can defend myself against political jargin elitists. People really seem to split hairs around here. By looking at this site one would think we're a bunch of overzealous fools who spend most of their time dissecting eachothters' personal views, instead of uniting and moving forward. It's like a religion with a hundred different denomintions. Honestly, if I were the department of homeland security,
I wouldn't be very concerened...I don't mean to sound like a prick.
I know about the politics and I know what we are trying to achieve. We all know what is wrong. That much is obvious. We all have our vision of the future but we need to focus on the present and what needs to be done now to overthrow the system. Trust me it's not going to very cut and dry after a full-scale revolution. Furthermore... what if America ended up being the rallying point? Would that be so bad? Every revolution needs a spearhead dude. Ernesto Guevara once said that he envied North Americans because we are fighting the most important fight of all... in the heart of the beast. A man in Argentina knows that American companies are raping his land and his people... it's common knowledge, but here in the U.S. we are the blind ones who's habbits support those injustices. The American people owe it to the world to wake up from the dream and tear down the system. So once again that is why I am a revolutionary patriot. It is my duty. Either way I'm on your side.

BE the revolution!

well
about the splitting hairs thing
there's nothing wrong with it, as long as its about something substantial and it doesnt prevent you from uniting.

Look, i'd fight alongside you, know that, but that doesnt mean i cant be critical of some of your views.

Yes, america could be the focal point, and yes that could happen, but firstly i doubt it and secondly it kinda comes accross a americacentric (yep i know thats not a word).
The american people dont ow any more to anyone than do the dutch, its not like you alone have the fate of the world in your hands
