Is there any place in the world where communists/anarchists are respected? I live in South Carolina...and it's not fun.

You refer to the people or the (state apparatus and the media)=bourgeois?

The bourgeois will never respect Communist/Anarchists because we struggle for their elimination.

Now for the people, as the bourgeois control the mass media, there is a constant systemic propaganda against us so its logical that people will be prejudiced against us. Most of them are people of lower education. That is why we must not argue with fanaticism with them but on the contrary we must use reason to convince or win our arguments because we are objectively correct.

But in many places in the world large portions of the people respect us. In Europe all anti-fascist resistance movements were carried out by communists, in S.A. the communists resisted against dictatorships, in Asia the same as in Europe and communists led most Africa’s anti-colonial movements.

Nonetheless, you should understand that the path of a communist will always be a difficult one as historically all the people who fought the establishment have been persecuted and mocked.

I've noticed in the united states when you say your a Communist or an Anarchist, you have to devote about 5 minutes or so to explaining yourself and what being an Anarchist or Communist means. Other places I've noticed not so much, when it comes to propeganda the United States has done an AMAZING job of demonizing those terms, many people actually think that the goal of Communism is to make everyone uniform and poor under a dictatorship that decides everything for you, and many people actually think that Anarchists want a violent chaotic society.

I personally consider being a communist in the united state is a brave maybe, yet lost cause, because the US is the least fertile ground for socialism.

But for your question, in Europe, so where I live, have been raised, have been born, where my roots are etc. etc. communists like you would say are respected, or generally taken serious. Also it depends on your living enviroment , or where you work I'd say

Many Spanish people love and respect anarchists and communists. I visited an old Spanish friend of the family during the christmas holiday, who I hadn't seen for, about 7 years, she was back in the UK for a little while.

She noticed the Red and black star I had pinned on my hoody and seemed to have a small fit of celebration (but then she is a very colourful person as it is)

she asked me to go back to spain with her and her family for a little while

I find that generally if they let you talk, and explain yourself the respect goes up a bit. I used to live in Mexico, and there (at least amungst the poor), anarchists and communists have a messure of respect.

The funny thing is, if you ask them about issues relating to communism and anarchism, generally they are supportive of them, but then when you ask them what they think of communism and anarchism they are strongly against it :P.

I have deep respect for Indonesian Communists. You people are heroes considering what you have been through. Regards from Greece.

In the "Communist countries" out there, "Communists" are still respected but there are few places where actual, true radical communists/anarchists are respected these days.

That is very true.
We really have to take back our words,I'm sick of being told that communism=stalinism and socialism means anything except ideas like the workers should own the means of production from the welfare state to dictatorial gov't control of the means of production.
Even the word libertarian has been stolen from anarchists by a bunch of pro-corporate extreme hypocrites.

I'd say it also depends on what area you live in, for example if you in some richass neighbourhood

Versailles, 16eme arrondissement in France , Wassenaar , Resnwoude, Bloemedaal n shit in Holland then of course as a socialist/communist you aint gonna respected. Yet if you live in a industrial, miner town, or a town with a good communist history ..... then indeed you are gonna get more liked/respected , or will expreience solidarity.

THen again , I think that the US is the place where you'd get least space/area as communist, and if you want to be active or do something significant with communism, I;d suggest you move out of the US.

one problem with being right is that you won't gain to much respect in the process. Socrates was executed for his beliefs, and Copernicus and Kepler were persecuted. Emma Goldman was deported, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assasinated, the list goes on and on.

"But never doubt that a small group of dedicated people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

That may be true, but the question was also about communists, who are respected in Cuba.

At any rate, places where leftists are accepted are few and far between. There are areas in the US where leftist beliefs are prevelant (I've heard the North West has a good deal of anarchist activity). Outside of the west, I think it gets better. Greece is full of anarchists who are more than active; El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and other Central American countries have a strong leftist presence, and they are supported; someone said that South America is another place where leftists have a foothold; India has a few states that have been ruled by communist parties for years (Kerala, Tirupati and West Bengal for instance).

When it comes to the US, as well as most of Europe, the environment is VERY reactionary, but that comes with the territory, so remember that you're not alone.
