You may think that you live in a fair and free society, but you’re wrong. You may think that capitalism is fair. Why not? Unless you study society closely, we tend not to look beyond our noses, and see how corporate companies exploit thousands world-wide to make a profit.
Take the clothes on your back for instance, you may not know it, but the average garment violates at least 20 human rights or environmental laws, from the cotton which is used for them, to the women and children of third world countries who sew them. The word “free market” is a joke, the people of third world countries have no choice but to work in these dreadful conditions, for they risk unemployment, as all of the factories have the same horrific conditions. So you may think that the “free market” is fair, but as Karl Marx said “Free Trade—In one word for exploitation veiled by religious and political illusions, it has substituted the naked, shameless direct, brutal exploitation of feudalism”. Feudalism was once treated as capitalism is today, as a normality, but it was questioned and then eventually destroyed, only to be replaced by feudalism that is masked — Capitalism. It uses a cash payment for the worker that is a fraction of what the product produced is worth, thus profiting through exploiting the workers. We must remember that we may not see much of the damage of capitalism (as we import a large amount of products that could be produced in the UK due to globalization) but it is there in India, in China, and almost every developing country. Did you know that the richest 2% own half of the worlds wealth? But millions are still starving. It need not be that way, under socialism and communism all are equal and no one is exploited, we must challenge the capitalist society.
