What if the famous Greek inventor, Heron of Alexandria, had used his first steam engine as something other than a toy. He could have kick started an industrial revolution in 300 BCE.
If he had, we could have been 2000 years ahead of where we are now scientifically. I could be typing this from a terraformed Mars.

What if Hitler had died in the First World War? If Abraham hadn't left Ur? If the Persians had conquered Greece?
I've read texts of what if history- it's actually really interesting but impossible, of course, to be sure of anything.

What if...the south would of won the Civil War?
Would America still be the powerhouse it is now?
Would America be as conservative as it is now?

If the South won, then it would be independent from the rest of the country as the Confederate States of America, which is why it needs to be called a war of independence rather than a civil war.
Eventually, due to the pressures of a industrialized North, the CSA would have to industrialize, which would lead to the emancipation of slaves and their eventual exploitation as a reserve army of labor.
This would have ensured that at some point the South would have become more interested in interfering in the affairs of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, unimaginably altering the history of Cuba and many other nations within these regions.
Thus, the answer to both of your questions are no, although on the first question, there would be at least a large amount of industrial capacity that would ensure that the remaining states would be present in the industrial world.

Alternative History is just a fiction which does not fit in this forum IMO.
That does not stop me from Participating in this topic :P
What if Hitler had died in the First World War?
Probably Rohm or Goering sould ahve captured power. They certainly would not have initiated the WW2(Goering was opposed to a Long War though Rohm is highly unpredictable.
If Abraham hadn't left Ur?
That is certainly fiction anyway not history.

I do not agree with it being referred to as a civil war either. To the victors, go the history books which therefore lead to the rise of the popular name, Civil War. It was a war between two independent nation states, not an internal war within the union.

I know, but the Nazi party was stronger when they had their Führer. Without him they were doomed to form rivaling factions, that were ultimately set to fail.

A civil war is, "a war in which parties within the same culture, society or nationality fight against each other for the control of political power. Political scientists use two criteria: the warring groups must be from the same country and fighting for control of the political center, control over a separatist state or to force a major change in policy. The second criterion is that at least 1,000 people must have been killed in total, with at least 100 from each side."
A civil war is called a revolution when the insurgent party is successful are reorganizing political/societal areas. Thus why Spain 1936 is still considered a Civil War by everyone outside this message board.

This is what happens when history is distorted. *shakes head*
What you said is understandable, seeing that the North won the War for Southern Independence.
But, once again, it makes no sense to refer to this as a civil war when the situation may have led to the development of a independent American South.

Are you trying to say that the war didn't involve parties of the same society, fighting to control a separatist state, known as the CSA?

What if Lenin had died before the revolution?
What if Gore had won Glorida in 2000?

What if Kennedy had served 2 full terms?
Kennedy had liver disease and probably would have died shortly before or after the beginning of his second term.
What if Lenin had died before the revolution?
There were two revolutions in 1917. The first one deposed the czar, formed soviets and factory committees, and formalisation of civil freedoms without Lenin. In his place, Alexandra Kollontai would have probably stepped up for revolutionary sovietism as she too called for a second proletarian revolution from the start.

He would have put up a "theory" of "Christianism in a sole country".
He would have replaced the cross with the ice-pick as a symbol of Christianity.
He would have written a handbook called "Religious Questions", managing to explain, in a very didactical way, why Christians should never give to the poor, nor offer the other face.
We would be informed that Christianism was created by two leaders, Jesus and Stalin.
Christianism would have "failed" about 1989, and the press would have reported that "Atheism won".

If the South won, it would be known as The War of the Southern Independence.
As they lost, it is known as The American Civil War.
Since I prefer their defeat to their victory, I am comfortable with "Civil War".
