Oh and Metallica are perhaps the most over-rated band in history... except possibly Nirvana.

Viking Metal?
Sounds pretty fucking lame.
by the way, Black Metal is dead and has been dead for over ten years. So...yeah. Only real metal I listen to is
Burzum
Bathory
early Darkthrone
early Mayhem
Nokturnal Mortum
Old Funeral
Early Abigor (I.E. Apokalypse)
BTW:
Alot of Black Metal is made so-called Nationalist Socialists who are extremely racist. Just look at the song "The Call of the Aryan Spirit" on NeChrist by Nokturnal Mortum.

Hate to break it to ya but neither slayer nor anthrax is really that good. Alot of Slayer songs sound very similiar and very few of their riffs are hard to play. Neither have produced a decent album since the 80's and there are much better bands to listen to. Kreator for instance destroys fucking Slayer and Anthrax.

What revolution's that? The struggle for the dominance of absolutely fucking shit music?
Slayer are awful, I had the misfortune of seeing them in November at the Unholy Alliance tour - I knew I didn't like them but I thought I'd wait til they came on and see if my opinion changed. It didn't, if I had to create an album called 'Dreadful Repetitive Shite,' it'd be 90% Slayer. I left after 5-6 songs, and I went to the Unholy Alliance tour two weeks later and left before Slayer even came on.
But I think the metal scene is currently wrapped up too much in showing hatred for certain metal genres and bands, as opposed to showing support and promoting the music they love, so moving on...
I love Children of Bodom, seen them three times. I love In Flames, seen them twice and I love Cradle of Filth (apart from the new shit) and I've seen them three times also.
My favourite death metal band is Deicide, they are fucking superb... check them out -
Deicide - Scars Of The Crucifix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cyZj9GUXD4)
Deicide - When Satan Rules His World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2jSdcqgfkE)
I also like Cryptopsy, old Darkthrone, Deathstars (they're like metal/industrial I suppose), Kataklysm, Lamb Of God, Norther, Behemoth, Turmion Kätilöt (Finnish metal/industrial) and Norther.

Glen Benton didn't even have the guts to take his own life when he got older htan christ was when he died, even though he promised it ;)
I will agree that Slayer now is pretty shite, both live and on album. Last good one was Seasons in the Abyss.
Im probably a bit conservative in my metal taste, more into: Carcass, Napalm Death, Obituary, Suicidal Tendencies, Sodom, Black Sabbath, Extreme Noise Terror, Brujeria, Megadeth, Nailbomb, Sepultura and the sorts...
Rivalry in the metalscene is as old as the scene itself, in small doses it's ok.
Looking forward to Necro's procject with Igor Cavalera.

The only metal bands that you really need to bother listening to are Neurosis and Isis. Everything else, though perhaps good, is ultimately irrelavent.

Pshhhh... That is such bullshit.
Metal is a pretty general category. To say that you should only listen to two metal bands is fucking retarded.

I have to listen to shitty boring metal like at the gates to be considered one. How about learning about different genres of metal before opening your big arrogant fucking mouth.
Oh and by the way saying that Iron Maiden and Sabbath arent metal bands shows that you have no appreciation for some early metal acts that actually paved the way for shitty metal bands like the ones you wrap yourself up in. Emperor piss me off to an extreme, but in all fairness they have madee some good songs. For example, the Wanderer from the Anthems... album while instrumental is excellent. Though on the whole, I think the band were/are (I here they have reformed) pretty poor (actually shit is a better word) despite the occassional flash of genius.
I can't have this conversation with someone who is obviously not a metal-head. (and no, listening to iron maiden and sabbath doesn't qualify you)
Then what does qualify one to be a 'metal head'?
I listen to bands which most people consider to be metal, among others. Can I only be a fan of metal when I start listening to Isis (who are pure unadulterated shit IMO)? Can I not just be happy listening to Freak Kitchen, Blind Guardian, Maiden, Tool (to name a few bands I love listening to) and still hold a valid opinion on metal?
BTW i do listen to a lot more than that and I do personally consider my self to be a little bit of a metal head.

Well, black metal isn't really my thing, nor do I understand or attempt to understand the lyrics of Emperor. But i n all fairness, occassion does require the occassional play and I find that if I were to pick an album I would say the one I am most drawn to is 'Anthems to the Welkin at Dust' (simply because the wanderer is a damn fine tune IMO). Though it must be said, most of their stuff sound identical.

Well I don't care if people like 'em or not. I was speaking towards relevance. To deny the influential nature of Neurosis, with everything they have done through Neurot Recordings, seems absurd. Its like saying Earth Crisis isn't relevant despite the recent (shitty) trend in metalcore to rip off old mosh metal riffs and mix 'em with maiden or gothenburg licks.
As far as Isis, I think they are certainly relevant to metal in that they are exploring atmosphere to a level Neurosis never did. Same can be said of bands like Sunn 0)), though in a different direction.

Anyone know of the band Threat Signal?
One of my friends gave me one of their demos that has the songs "Rational Eyes" and "One Last Breath" on it, and I must say it's great. The drive is amazing.

Name one song where varg talks about satan. Just one. The only reason many bands talk about satan is because they fucking hate christianity and theism. They talk about satan just to spite them.
Rammstein? Rammstein is so fucking lame. So so so fucking lame. I almost didnt take your comment seriously. I kept reading waiting for the joke but it never came.

They're not that bad, no need for the homophobia...

Oh come on. Black metal obviously started off with all sorts of satanic imagery and trying to be as "evil" as possible. It has expanded since then, but its roots were definitely in satanism, whether for anti-christianity or not.

I listen to mostly thrash metal, speed metal, N.W.O.B.H.M., and crossover (thrash metal bands who used to be punk/hardcore or have lots of punk/hardcore influences) type stuff. Slayer, old Metallica, Anthrax, Exodus, Death Angel, Nuclear Assault, Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I., Venom, etc. I also like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Pretty Maids, Saxon, and Accept.
I also listen to some 80s hair/glam metal too like Dokken, Scorpions, Twisted Sister, etc.

I like power/speed/epic metal. Which no one seems to be a fan of. I a haven't listen to alot though. I like Blind Guardian and Dragon Force.
I went to a Blind Guardian concert last night. The atmosphere that band creates is fucking amazing. They manage to play the songs I most wanted to hear, and surprised me when they played songs wasn't sure they would do, such as Mirror Mirror.
I also like Black Sabbath and Danzig. Is Danzig metal? They seem to be influenced by metal, rock and blues.

I've been a metal fan for nearly 20 years and I just cannot embrace the new-metal stuff at all, I've tried but its nothing compared to the golden years of the eighties and the NWBHM and the San Francisco bay area thrash scene. That was awsome times and I have great memories of them.
I'm going to the Download festival for the first time this year and I can't wait to see Slayer and Megadeth again. We oldies used to call it the 'Monsters of Rock' festival.
