Has anyone seen this film? To me it screams "white mans burden". does anyone else think this?

Yes i agree. It is another film with the white man being the hero for the minorities. I have seen so many of these films in Puerto Rico.

That's exactly what I think when I see those previews:
"Oh, thank god the white person is here to save the minorities from their ways..."

I just saw it tonight and it had it's good moments but at the same time it made people of colour look like vicious apes who beat eachother up and whip crap at eachother. Then along comes this white liberal who pretty much says "its your fault your in the ghetto becuase you refuse to learn! it has nothing to do with society your just all stupid!"
It had alot of the American Dream and being a "good citizen" crap in it too. Like this one scene
SPOILERS:
This girl sees a murder and is suppost to destify in court. She is going to lie and say a black man did it instead of her boyfriend, they are both latino btw. She says she is "protecting her own". So they start talking about "doing the right thing no matter what" so she sells her boyfriend out to the freakin court. When what she should of done was plead the fifth & saved two poor souls from the prison system. Then she'd be protecting two of her own instead of none of her own.
:END SPOILERS
The movie seemed to say to me "people of colour are opressed because they are lazy, only reverse racists and crazy people think whites have privilage. The best way to promote minority unity is to obey the white supremacist power structure."
I think if this movie had just been a simple drama it would of brought tears to my eyes because I will say there are some sad parts in there.

I think the interpretations here are good, not that I don't think schools in the hood could use an inspiring teacher to hep open up the creativity of youths, but this perception being created in this movie is obviously shit.
And of course, they can watch The Presuite of Happiness right after this film, to learn how they can become successful business men and wimmin - provided they want to and work hard enough - after they learn in school.

it looks like an interesting film, but i'll probably wait until its on dvd to see it. im tired of movies that are all about the lazy, stupid minorities being saved by some wite person from the outside.

movie looks like it would suck.
just another attempt by Hilary Swank to make people remember her name.
also, it reminds me very much of white mans burden.

I agree, the plot seems rather cliche. I also don't think Swank was the right actress for the role..
