Yup, like Anarion said us SP scum are quite active in the North. Our 'party' has some crap analysis and stuff but our youth wing, Socialist Youth is a broad organisation who are open to new members and whatever influences or opinions they bring to the table.
Belfast?

Militant back in the day ended up sitting in the middle denouncing both Republicans and Loyalists when we should have given critical support to Republicans and tried to gain support around the broad campaigns like those aginst the H-Blocks and stuff.
We're sweet nowadays though, we're probably the most active and dedicated, non-sectarian Socialist grouping in the North. Gaining support around the attempts of the government to privatise water as well as just the horrific state of public facilities. Yeo :D

It would depend on where you're based. For instance, there are plenty of left-wing parties organised in Belfast for you to join if you want (Communist Party (http://www.communistpartyofireland.ie/), Irish Republican Socialist Party (http://www.irsm.org/irsm.html), Organise! (website's been down for a while), Sinn Féin (http://www.sinnfein.ie/), Socialist Party (http://www.socialistparty.net/), Socialist Workers' Party (http://www.swp.ie/html/home.htm), etc.). However, outside of the city things get somewhat sparse for most of these groups.
In terms of university societies, there are Socialist Youth, Socialist Workers' Society, Ógra Shinn Féin and the Anarchist/Libertarian Communist society at Queen's. I think Ógra are the only ones organised in the University of Ulster's campuses. With regards to youth organisations outside of academia, I think Ógra are the only ones organised in this way. SY have a branch in Omagh, but it seems to be based around a specific high school there.
