While in the midst of reading the "lion king interp." thread I remembered being in my Wrld Lit. class and hearing this girl interpret animal farm as follows:

Napoleon & Snowball= popular kids
Rest of the Animals= Normal Kids

Popular kids trick the normal kids into liking them and helping them and then they're mean and yell at and hurt the other animals. She tried to make a direct reference to how high school and animal farm are very similiar and when I tried to explain to her how extremely off base she was my ***** teacher told me that it is open to interpretation and to stop talking. That was the day I realized I was intellectually superior to my Wrld Lit. class.

Teachers need to stop forcing their students to read Orwell. If they really wanted to articulate Orwell's message to their students, they would let them read whatever the hell they wanted to read.

We werent forced to read it. We were discussing literature that was relevant to high school and pop culture and she brought it up.

No. It was this over-weight christian girl who has supposedly been picked on her whole life because of her weight problem and probably turned to christianity because looking for some meaning. I didnt want to call her stupid or anything I just wanted to point out how ignorant her interpretation of Animal farm was.

Teachers like to give to their kids "Animal Farm" to read but they never give them Orwell's Preface to "Animal Farm" or Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia." Because they are ignorant and are deeply indoctrinated themselves!

Reading Animal Farm in English class was easily one of the worst experiences in my entire high school "career".

I hate how animal farm is used to "disprove" socialism in high school when in the introduction to the book it says Orwell was a socialist. Actually when we were reading the book i was just starting to develop my hate of capitalism. Doing a home work assignment on snowball actually first indroduced me to trotsky wich actually probably helped me end up where i am politically today.

Am I the only who think that is a not-too-bad interpretation of Animal Farm?

I mean, seriously, if you're looking for other ways to interpret it (apart from a depiction of the degeneration of the Russian Revolution) then that's not too bad.

Oh and anyone who slags off Animal Farm is not a Socialist.

Don't make fun of the girl cause she's overweight, make fun of her cause she's Christian.
