I agree, but he has got some cool songs though. Like Beef & Brocolli and the poverty of philosophy.
Anyway here's another awesome band:

Really cool punk with songs like 'Karl Marx & history' and 'Proletarian Hop'.

We should try and avoid bands who are based only on politics as they are inevitably samey and repetitive sounding.
Bob Marley
Damian Jr. Gong Marley
Burning Spear
NWA
Peter Tosh
Steel Pulse
None clearly political enough, you would have to pick out explicit songs
All of Invader Zim's were brilliant picks, Propagandhi as well.
Billy Bragg
Against Me!
The Clash
These three pull off politics because it is the perfect balance of spirit, humour and anger.

Afroman...he's not really that political but he talks about the "corporate world" a lot, and has a song called "Fuck McDonalds and Taco Bell". He talks about "*****es" a lot so he might be a mysogynist, or he could just like sex and uses the term ***** too much. But his songs are mostly all good, nothing too serious.

Lyrics
Sarah Jones - Blood (lyricist lounge vol. 1)
It is the thickest blood on this planet
The feet, that slip and slide in spilled lakes of black blood
on back roads marked with rusted dead end signs
They don't fit into any shoes
Not Nike's, and not Reebok's, though they
make em across the sea and sell em to you and me
for fifty times their value *tch* none of them can hold the blood
that coagulated not so long ago, in the lower extremities
of off-color corpses, strung up from trees
Like, drying figs or, hanging poupourri, to
sweeten scenes of Southern gallantry
Before cushioned insoles and arch supports
There were feet that sank in rusted chains, and uhh
backs that cracked beneath the weight of slave names
like Jones, Smith, Johnson, Williams, or even Hilfiger
And black butts that bore marks forever from irons
that preceded those for pressing and curling naps
yanked straight, before relaxers weaves and pink lotion
*British accent*
Branding irons children, now that you've crossed the ocean right
Step up here lit-tle nigger on the auction block and open up your mouth
Right, good strong teeth, good muscle tone
You oughta pick a ton of cotton, must be worth ten dollars maybe more
See here ladies and gentlemen how much can I get for this here
barely used, top of the line...
*American accent returns*
Fast forward to Calvin Klein
and modern ownership tags for black behinds, courtesy of Ralph Lauren
A.K.A. low, low, well how low can you go?
Call on black consumers if you want the cash flow
Cause they quick to flip and spend up all they dough
and don't front money, act like you know
We give it up to the Brook-lyn malls
We give it up to the Uptown malls
Cause the white folks figure ain't no question for a nigga
that material posessions can answer
Keep us preoccupied from what we read or what we drive
while our mothers are dying of cancer
We tuck our low self esteem in Euro-trash jeans
some overpriced shit from Donna Karan
As we toast with Hennesey to covert white supremacy
Hiding the thickest blood on the planet
we wearing it under our clothes, the way God dressed our souls
but, check how the proud blood flow through 1996
Adding fuel to the flames of some bullshit brand names
cause we couldn't see past the next pair of fat kicks
It is the thickest blood on this planet
The blood that, sprays and spills in buckets
soaks and stains the nightly news, but fuck it
A colored life still ain't worth but a few ducats
That blood can't be contained by any mind that cannot see a
great black forest for all these cracker trees
I'm talkin about Afro-Madonna, and child, and child
and child, and child, and whoops, there goes another one
And momma don't know the answer so baby gots to Guess
Oh say young blood, you wanna tell me
what George Marciano, ever did for a negro? Boricua, chicano
brothers and sisters their pockets like blood blisters
Ready to pop, ooze, and drop cash so hot and so fast
it makes a spark
"Yeah mami cause now I got my upside down triangle
My designer question mark"
OH WHY ASK WHY that shit don't make you complete
It's vanilla concealer for your chocolate heartbeat
Pumping the, thickest blood on this planet
While we take it for granted that, more Selma churches won't be bombed
More bullet riddled bodies won't be embalmed
Another cop won't, commit murder turn around and get a raise
while we pickin over the racks from white owned Doctor J's
to Modell's, Macy's, and Sach's
Shit they just think we ain't never gon' change our ways
and finally answer back:
"No suh, Ise don't want to wear yo' britches
No suh, Ise don't want to grant yo' wishes
That all us negroes.." .. shall continue to hide, in your shoes
and your clothes, as if we should take pride
in your savage traditions, in genocide
All the spirits you extinguished and never batted one blue eye
Yet your vulture's on our culture like white on brown rice
Bleach our blood and sell it back, special price
on this blood that races through the African veins of the child
on his way to the mall, in White Plains
to catch a confused, lost, land-stealing Columbus Day sale
on a Fila jogging suit, for his brother in jail
That blood, is your blood, it's my blood, it's our blood
It's the, thickest blood on this planet

I've long been a fan of Beth Orton, but I never thought of her music as political in any way until I read these lyrics:
Artist: Beth Orton
Album: Comfort Of Strangers
Year: 2006
Title: Countenance Print
Correct
For those who preach forgiveness
whilst they’re practicing revenge
man will do to man
but nature’s got it all in hand
it ain’t free
it ain’t fooled you’ll see
there are no rights for the many
the ones already damned
the few born into grace
they’re gonna get the helping hand
it ain’t free
it ain’t fooling me
and there’s nothing to hide
and there’s nothing to save
and there’ll always be something
your countenance to give it away
not much more to say
not much more to say
for those who are obsessed
with his reflection as he is
nature has a cause
you know you ain’t never
gonna be that blessed
it ain’t free
it ain’t fooled you’ll see
and there’s nothing to hide
and there’s nothing to save
and they’ll always be something
your countenance to give it away
not much more to say
not much more to say...

Yeah :) And there's, of course, Screaming at The Wailing Wall, and, say, Tobacco Island, or Light of a Fading Star... I wouldn't classify them as political band, though, only because they have a few political songs. Because, then we'd have to classify The Pogues as political, and the Prodigals and a number of celtic punk rock bands. You might, I just don't ;) When a band sing about love, alohol, occasionally politics, and Irish history- it doesn't mean the band is political, just that they probably play some variation of Irish punk ;)

I don't know what their opinion on nationalism is, but I doubt they are nationalists. Their songs ain't nationalistic - as a matter of fact, most of their songs are about working class, organizing and stuff. Now, I'll admit that from time to time their lyrics may sound a bit to the rightie side if you don't listen carefully... In 'Heroes From Our Past' you may hear 'Come on rally round this brave and valiant cause with tradition, pride, and honor at its core,' for example, but that's actually a song about fighting for human rights ;)
So, no I don't think they are nationalist. But they are local-patriots when it comes to the Boston area. I don't mind that, though. ;)

Now, I’m a bit drunk at the moment, so perhaps I’m not going to make sense. But when I listen to music, I listen to the, well, music, and to the lyrics. Now, the music is probably irrelevant here (except that it’s rousing and anthemic - but that’s not the point, is it?); as for the lyrics, I like the DKM lyrics. A lot. They are often about working class and stuff, and me likes them, and that’s it.
As for their RL attitudes and political opinions – we don’t know, really. Yes, I’ve read through those threads. What I’d seen is loads of, well, statements without much proof, really. Someone says the Dropkick are xenophobic; then someone says that they aren’t. Someone says they didn’t throw out the nazis from their gigs (and, pragmatically speaking, how would one do that? Jump down from the stage and kick their heads in? Call the security to throw out the people because the band doesn’t like their T-shirts?). Then someone else says thir policy is not to allow nazis in at all; and yet someone else says they did throw them out, somehow. But what are facts? Where are the proofs? You can say one thing and I can say another, and it’s your word against mine... ;) I’ve seen lots of misinformation in those threads, I’ve seen Flogging Molly lyrics ascribed to DKM and whatnot.
Then I read through a dozen or more interviews with various members of DKM (just do a google search, there are loads and I can’treally be bothered to post the links now). The fact is, they rarely talk about politics; when they do, they mostly try to be very moderate in expressing their personal opinions. I didn’t see any reference to their supporting the Afghan bombing (I’m not saying it’s not there, I just couldn’t find it, is all). I’ve seen their opinions on Iraq, and it’s basically ‘we don’t support the war, but we support the troups, cause they’re ours’ (summarized) ( http://www.punktv.ca/?c=105&a=1147 and numerous other places). Now, I don’t agree with that stance one wee bit, but I can, in a way, understand it. I still don’t support it a bit, but, okay, it’s their trip, and I don’t think it’s very harmful. They’re anti-Dubya now (as lots of people are now, thankfully). Even that doesn’t mean much.
DKM does loads of charity work and stuff, and that I like.
So someone saw them have a drink with members of Screwdriver. So what the hell? On numerous occasions I’ve shared a drink or two with people whose political views are radically opposed to my own. We’de had a heated political discussion, perheps; or we just talked music or sports or relationships or whatever, if we didn’t feel like discussing our political views. But, my opinion is, you can have a beer with pretty much anyone and keep it civilised. Doesn’t mean you agree with their opinions. Doesn’t mean you’re friends. Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m just overly tolerant, I don’t know. I come from a country where you have to keep it tolerant, or you go on fighting over same things, over and over again, endlessly and aimlessly. Doesn’t lead to anything.
But, the point is, DKM may have some opinions I don’t agree with. I didn’t stop liking Ramones when I found out Johnny was a rightie, my bad. On the other hand, there’s the DKM lyrics. Oh, they may be lying and faking it – singin about topics they usually sing about for some commercial or whatever reasons, but honestly, I don’t think so. Maybe it’s just me, but their lyrics scream ‘sincere, sincere, sincere!’ at me (and, yet again, I may just be wrong, but that’s my impression). How could you fake something like that? Why would you? Why would you go through all the Woody Guthrie love&swooning trip if you were secretly a righwinger at heart? And I tend to like the message the DKM are sending out through many of their lyrics, I do.
Yeah, this post is miles long, and I'm drunk, and I'm rambling, but what the hell... :P :) :) :)
