Recently, I have become steadily disillusioned with Marxism, Anarchism and all left-wing ideologies. I can't explain it, but I know that my left wing beliefs are steadily declining. Has anyone ever become disillusioned with socialism and communism, but managed to turn their disillusionment around and carry on believing.

I know what you mean. I think one of the ways to solve that is to read more and learn more about marxism.

I get disillusioned at the lack of progress of course but what is the alternative to striving for a better world? Was Francis Fukuyama right? That would paint a pretty bleak outlook for humanity!.

Of course there are times when it can seem hopeless. You put a great deal of time and effort into the revolutionary cause and for what? For people to ignore you? To have them say things like "it'll never work?"

We've all been there at sometime or another. But when I see the amount of needless suffering and injustice occuring around the world because of capitalism's ruthless quest for profit, I remember why I became active in the first place.

We need people to stay committed to the cause. For without them, what future is there for humanity? Ask yourself this. Do you really wanna be another rat in the capitalist race? Or do you want to help bring about a better society for all?

I made my decision a long time ago. While capitalism can benefit a few, the masses must suffer and toil to survive. We have the power to change everything. Most of us just haven't realised yet.

I my self became severely disillusioned in Marxism for about three years. I tried every capitalist refuges to become a capitalist. Once i got net conxn for the first time i learnt about Trotsky in Wikipedia and once i read the quote in my sig i really turned back to Marxism. Now i am not yet a member of any parties . I am now just learning every thing theoretically making me stronger. The point i want to make is if you are seriously commited to what you belive you will never get disillusioned. You have no seriousness in your belifs. Just read about these things more before announcing that you a left winger and after some times that you have been disillusioned with Left wing idealogies.

I don't think it's an issue of "believing", it's an issue of understanding. If you are having trouble with the ideas either ask one of us or we could also recommend some good books.

Exactly.
This is not a religion. You don't "stop believing" or "become unfaithful." If you turn away to different ideologies, or even if you stay, make sure your opinion is grounded in cold, hard fact.

Seriously comrade, Read more, it will destroy the disillusion.

Edit:Like a comrade above said, when you understand it more you start supporting it a lot more.

i few months ago i became disillusioned with the left too, and every so often i began to feel hopeless. but i thought about it, and i realized that there is no alternative. i could never go back to being a capitalist or feel happy with any other ideology. once you see the evil and destruction wreaked by capitalism, you can never go back to that. stay strong, comrade.
