Hello. I am new to this site and i have to say it is great.
I live in N.Ireland which is a Capitalist country. I can hardly describe myself as a communist because I do capitalistic things because I live in a country which is focused on economy etc. My query is; what am I supposed to do to keep Communism alive? I hate selling-out and doing things that goes against my wishes. But, overall really what can one do in modern times that keeps the flame of communism going? Everyone needs a job and if that means working for a lousy wage in a factory where the owners get everything, then so be it. What else can I do or other working-classes do? In some respects, Communism is idealist- because let's face it it's highly unlikely to happen. On the other hand I feel like myself and others should be doing something. But what can we do? Advice please. Reply and give me some meaning in life.

We're all in capitalist countries.

Working to keep yourself alive is not selling out.

Communism's rise is heralded by a violent overthrowing of the government in charge.

You might want to get together a group for... stuff.

Join a union, work in it activley and when the shit hits the fan- go for the guys in suits.

The fact that you live in bourgeois society does not exclude you from communist ideology.

Educate! Counter the lies that are spread about left-wing political viewpoints and tell people what we are really about.

As stated before, working to keep yourself alive is not selling out. The capitalist class will get theirs when the time is ripe.

In some respects, Communism is idealist- because let's face it it's highly unlikely to happen.
Communism is the very opposite of idealism. It is based on a wholly materialist viewpoint, that material conditions are the root of all human society. It's as likely to happen as capitalism was to abolish feudalism.

On the other hand I feel like myself and others should be doing something. But what can we do?
Again, educate, as it is our greatest weapon currently.

How does that prevent you from not being a communist. Communism is an ideology rather than some sort of profession so technically a bourgeois could be a communist. Obviously since you aren't a capitalist, there's no conflict there.

Dont worry mate we all live in capitalist countries. Just because you do capitalistic things it does not mean you cant be a communist. Hell we all buy products that are manfurate by oppressed workers, it is hard not to when you look in the wallot. In order to keep communism alive we need educate are selves and educate the people around us. Counter the lies of right-wing and liberal people. Communism can fully be realized it is not idealistic it is all in the roots of the world and is fully realistic. Again educte your peers and your friends. Stay around and you will become much more educated and your life will become much more aware

Every country in the world today could be described as a 'Capitalist' Country, because in all these countries, a small minority has ownership and control over the means of production, and the majority has no other way to survive except by selling their labour power as a commodity - in other words, all countries exhibit class struggle. Even 'Socialist' Countries such as North Korea are in fact, Capitalist, or to be more accurate, State Capitalist, because all economic resources are under the contol of a ruling class of economic managers and planners, even if market forces do not play any role in the production of goods and services in these countries.

I answer to your question though, I really hate it when people 'rebutt' socialism by pointing out the fact that I puchase 'bourgeois' commodities and live a 'decadent' lifestyle, and have never worked a day of wage-labour in my life (I am a student). As long as one continues to uphold Socialism over Capitalism, and, if possible try and educate those around us, then one is certainly not selling out to Capitalism. 'Selling out' means giving up revolutionary ideology for reforms and bourgeois politics (Social Democracy) or even worse losing one's political and class consciousness.

Capitalism forces us to become wage slaves in order to survive. We have to be able to buy food and clothes, pay the bills and keep a roof over our heads. This is the way society exists at the present time, but it's not something that can define your politics.

Saying you support capitalism because you live in a capitalist country is like saying blacks supported slavery 150 years ago.

They didn't really fight to change anything, so they must have supported it, right?
