I'm reading a book called "Trading with the Enemy : A yankee travels through Castro's Cuba", I'm at a part where he visits the Guantanamo bases (U.S and Cuban sides). He's talking with a officer who tells him some things I though were interesting.

Apparently, prostitutes were a very big help to the revolution. Around the Guantanamo base the women would charge weapons instead of money for sex. Sympathetic prostitutes from around the island came to the area to help out. They would also be allowed on the bases sometimes where they would steal weapons. Also, alot of U.S soldiers were supporters of the revolution and would sneak them weapons.

Alot of upper class Cuban women were invited to functions on the base. They could buy grenades for 5 pesos and bullets for fifty centavos.

Castro has said that the revolution would have been much tougher if not for the arms coming from the American base smuggled out by Cuban women.
