I did a search on google and there is a load of people with different opinions- does anyone know for sure?

I'm relatively sure it was Bakunin that said this first, but it seems to have been said by a lot of people according to a google search. James Connolly and Max Stirner have also been accredited with this quote, I know too little about them to vouch for the veracity of those claims.

You might ask CiaranB, who at least used to have a Connelly quote as his sig.

I don't know if Connolly was the originator of the quote, but he did use it (in Irish) as the subheading of his newspaper, the Workers' Republic.
