Lt Thomas E Selfridge died making him the first person to die in a flying accident.

This is a lie if you read down in your list...

And there was an Austrian guy who flew before the Wright brothers, I suggest you look himup. I forget his name though...

Thanks a lot pete, I had not noticed that error, Lt Thomas E Selfridge was the first to die in a powered flying accident. I will make the necessary changes.

Hmm an austrian guy, you say? Do you have a name? If you do that will be very useful.

Thanks again for spotting the error.

Why not mention the first man powered flight as well.

The Gossamer Condor was an MIT project on man powered flight. It actually won a prize for being the first human powered airplane to cross the English Channel. Technologically, it was pretty impressive.

Also, maybe a mention of Charles Lindberg, the first to fly solo across the Atlantic

Also worthy of mention is Amelia Aerhart who has some notable records.

Also worth mentioning is the first airplane to break the sound barrier. The X-1.

Another project worth mentioning might be the X-15. I believe this was the first "plane" to go to space and set incredible speed records.

John Stringfellow ? That's my last name, I wonder if we're related, not a very common name.

Can't remember a date, but the Tupolev 144 was the first civilian plane to break the sound barrier.

BTW you completely forgot about the Avro arrow. It went something like Mach 3 in the late 50's early 60's. The most advanced plane of the time. Scrapped by Diefenbacker...
