Haha
I like old school Nas, he was great back when he made "Illmatic" and "It Was Written"
But now, he's too mainstream for my tastes, and he's lost some of that flair that he had as a young guy
Even though the concept for "HipHop is Dead" is both positive and correct, I've heard some tracks and Im really not feeling them
The other 3 clowns that u named, are anything but MC's IMO
All image, and little to no skills
Rather, the big anticipation for me is Mos Def's Tru3 Magic droppin on Dec 16th

Jay-Z, Snoop and The Game
If you had let those commercial image horny bourgeois ****'s out i would be interested . Nas had a dope oldskool sound and progressive lyrics :) . Jay-z really cross the line by an extent of another 1000 miles when i saw that "CEO of hiphop" commerical

The song he did with his old man Olu Dara, Black Republicans colab with Jay Z, and what I reckon is the best hip hop song/beat combination in like 5 years in the title track Hip Hop is Dead.
Nasir still got it.
Not to forget the Don't Body Ya self diss

Stillmatic was good,
God's Son was good,
Illmatic is a classic,
his last album shouldn't have been a double,
and this new album...I don't know...

I'm not a huge Game fan, but I love old school Snoop, early 90s West Coast hip-hop = awesome...and Jay-Z? :o One of my favorite MCs!

i never liked snoop dogg, i liked some of Dr. Dre's stuff and Snoop Dogg had good production (on his debut atleast) but he's constantly trying to be a pimp and i cant stand all that stupid pimpshit.
and Jay-Z?, same things only he's also blingbling and shit like that.

He has better lyrical skills than almost any other rapper in history.

Thief's Theme was the first single off Street's Disciple, Just a Moment (with Quon) came third and you can't say that isn't some deep shit. Also, Nas didn't really bring it that strong on Road to Zion, lyrically, but that's still a great song.
It's too bad that his new single uses the same sample as a single from the last album, but this new song is definitely better. Most of his material since Illmatic, while good, constantly references and quotes from Illmatic, but all the new stuff I've heard from Nas recently - Hip Hop is Dead, Shine on 'Em, and one other I forget - shows he's moving on to new things. Nas is still the best out there.

Anybody who just says eh to Illmatic is not qualified to talk about Nas and/or hip hop.
I've just listened to it maybe once or twice through but it's not a bad album. It's definately better that Jay's new one, which isn't saying much, but it has more than a few good songs.

What the fuck does it matter, they're both good MCs. Christ, this whole 'competitive' ethos in hip hop destroys the thing. I can like Immortal Technique, Nas, The Coup and D12 all at the same time. Jeesuz grow up...

Rakim and KRS One are legends, but lyrically can't touch Nas, and Canibus can ill but he's inconsistent and Nas is far better than Can-I-Bus
Hip Hop Is Dead from what ive heard so far is sounding raw as fuck and giving me hope that Nas can ignite something here

You've got be kidding me, putting out a quality album over 10 years ago doesnt put someone on top for life. I wasnt saying the album was 'eh', but rather, 'eh' to the fact that people were still referencing it to make a case for nas in 2000 and fucking 6! He should be judged on what he's actually puttin out now, sure you can respect someone for their past contributions, but there's limits - and im not gonna keep praisin' someones work just coz they put out a great album over 12 years ago!
Floyd.

I'd get more excited about a release by Common.
Snoop Dogg has great flow btw, what he may lack in content against Nas he makes up for with catchiness and anthemic qualities.
