Holiday Appeal for Class War Prisoners
We Demand the Immediate Freedom of Mumia Abu-Jamal, an Innocent Man!
The focus of this year’s PDC Holiday Appeal will be the campaign to free U.S. political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal. This fight has reached a crucial juncture. Mumia Abu-Jamal’s appeal is on the “fast track” in the federal appeals court and the state is determined to carry out his execution. A former Black Panther Party spokesman, a MOVE supporter and award-winning journalist known as the “voice of the voiceless,” Mumia was framed up on false charges of killing Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner on 9 December 1981. This year marks 25 years since Mumia was railroaded onto death row by Philadelphia ’s notorious court and cop frame-up machine on demonstrably false charges.
The threatened execution of Mumia is a warning to all who challenge vicious cop repression in the ghettos and barrios, to workers who stand up for their rights on picket lines, to those who protest the ravages of U.S. imperialism and its junior allies like Canada in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and around the world. Millions in the unions, on the streets and campuses must be mobilized now behind Mumia’s fight! A successful mobilization that wins Mumia’s freedom would strike a blow as well against the all-sided attacks on democratic rights carried out in the name of the “war on terror.” Here in Canada , the struggle for his freedom must be linked to a fight against the attacks of our own ruling class—from the racist deportation of immigrants to the state “anti-terror” vendetta against Muslims, Tamils and others, from assaults on Native protestors to the “anti-crime” hysteria targeting black youth.
Join us for an evening of speeches, music, food and refreshments. The featured speaker will be Jonathan Piper of the Partisan Defense Committee and Mumia Abu-Jamal’s former attorney from 1990-1999.
An injury to one is an injury to all! Free Mumia Abu-Jamal!
Abolish the racist death penalty!
