In light the brutal repression expressed by the Chilean State towards the indigenous Mapuche People of southern Chile, we call on a gathering of solidarity in support of the Mapuche's noble cause. After 300 years of European colonization and with the imposition of the Chilean State, the Mapuche People are still vigilant in defending thier sovereignty, identity, and culture. Waikilaf Cadin Calfunao, one of many Mapuche Political Prisoners and leader of his community, was arrested and detained in August of this year for defending his People's intrinsic right to sovereignty. To this day he has received no trial on behalf of the imposed, colonial courts of Chile, and was beaten and tortured while being transferred from his home town of Temuco to the Maximum Security Prison in the capital of Santiago. Wakilaf, 22 years of age, has been carrying out a hunger strike since October 1st 2006, for the freedom of all the Mapuche Political Prisoners. Since November 17, 2006, he has taken on the initiative to carry out a dry hunger strike (i.e. no intake of water), in reaction to the arrest and detention of his mother, Lonko (Leader of her community) Juana Calfunao, his father Antonio Cadin, his stepbrother Jorge Landeros Calfunao, and the militarization of his community of Juan Paillalef. The community remains in isolation from its surroundings, as the militarization has implied the use of curfew on the Mapuche People living in the area. The Juan Paillalef Community has been known for its resistance unto the oppression executed by the Chilean State, and the pillaging of ancestral lands by national and transnational corporations.....

We call out on all activists, organizations and individuals to join together to support the Mapuche resistance unto colonial, and imperialist oppression. The Indigenous Peoples of the Americas are rising up, and will not cease to resist until THEY RECOVER WHAT IS THEIRS!

A RECUPERAR LO QUE ES NUESTRO!!!

TO RECOVER WHAT IS OURS!!!
