This is fanastic! I've recently become interested in solar power so this is good news. I did a workshop on an intro to DIY solar power and it's quite amazing how cheap solar power can work out if you can manage to get a panel. It's a matter of getting converters and batteries also but the one this guy had was about a metre square, can't remember what type of panel (maybe polycrystalline) but I think he said it was less efficient. And one charged battery can work on his computer for about 5 hours or keep the stereo running alot longer than that. The only thing that needs replacing is the batteries. 12W panel I think. It's awesome! I may invest in one. It works on most devices, just no refrigerators :)

Cool. However, the problem of cost still remains and the process of convincing people to use such alternative energies may also be slow but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Yes I guess that it will use alot of energy and money. And of course time before it starts to become beneficial. I have heard of a factory somewhere overseas that uses solar power to produce solar panels :)

The problem is that powering your home with solar panels is pretty fucking expensive. However, they're starting to get cheaper, but they're not yet at the point where they're generally affordable.
