"Richest 2% own 'half the wealth'" http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6211250.stm

...the poorer half of the world's population own barely 1% of global wealth.

But of course, capitalists are using this for their own gain:

But one of the authors, Professor Anthony Shorrocks, says it does draw attention to the importance of enhancing banking systems in developing countries to help generate the funds for business investment.

If anyone has read "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" by John Perkins, they can see why this isn't exactly the best thing (debt-imperialism)

According to a new study by a United Nations research institute the richest 2% of adults in the world own more than half of all household wealth. Most previous studies of economic disparity have looked at income, whereas this one looks at wealth — assets minus debts. The survey is based on data for the year 2000.

BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6211250.stm)

The study itself can be found here (http://www.wider.unu.edu/research/2006-2007/2006-2007-1/wider-wdhw-launch-5-12-2006/wider-wdhw-press-release-5-12-2006.htm)

Finally they have admitted it . <_< . The rich @$$#013$ have more than what they need.

Slashdot has a discussion about it(Many Cappie's) (http://politics.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/12/06/0334228)

And Statistically speaking how much of the world is either starving poor or locked in horrible wage slavery?

My father once said about 200 familys(including Dupont, Bush, and Rockafellar) combined own almost everything in the world. Is there a link supporting this? I'd like to use it for a Sociology paper. Please & Thank You.

This makes me want to vomit my insides up.
I'm reminded of a slogan I seen on a Burger King near Stirling during the G8 summit in Scotland that read '10 thousand pharaohs, 6 billion slaves. The world and the human race is an enormous machine to produce a luxury lifestyle for a tiny minority. It can only get worse. The status quo must be detroyed forever.

Many cappies will like seeing this 2%, they'll say something along the lines of "well, 200yrs ago there was less than 2% of rich ppl around the world, therefore its evident that wealth is spreading to others...blahblahblah"

Making money from the suffering of others, enjoy your xmas fellas, I hope your wife enjoys that diamond encrusted ring that some poor African family found b4 they went out to drink their glass of dirty water for lunch <_<

A new "revolutionary-potential" test: If anyone can look at that statistic and not feel sick to their stomach, they have no place being called comrade.

Well said, you know it never ceases to shock me how capitalists try to justify bullshit, wealth hording, exploitation, sweatshops, child labor, crushing poverty, human rights abuses, arm sell's to dictators and despots, the supporting and training of brutal right-wing paramilitary groups, ect. ect.

Ya some try to justify it but some are even worse and just shrug it off saying "thats life, some people are rich some arn't..."
