I have seen many people say that the army could benefit them by teaching them tactical fighting techniques, but why not go to academies that are specialized for those main things? http://www.lethalweaponstraining.com is just one example of a school which teaches you self-defense. I do not know their credibility or proficiency, but its worth a try. I am pretty sure schools such as this one are all around the country as well.

Survival schools would also be helpfull, http://www.equipped.com/srvschol.htm Also find some serious airsoft players to play with to practice things like working with others and different combat tactics.

Or just find a trainer to help you with weapons practice. Politics doesn't really have to come in at all.

I gained the majority of my skills just from studying the human anatomy and reading books and watching movies that include realistic combat scenes. I also find friendly wrestling with friends/family a great way to practice melee combat.

I joined the Belgian reserve forces, a few weeks training per year. I learned a lot, I meet other people, etc... The problem with this is that if you join the reserve in the USA you definatly will be send to war somewhere in the (near) future.

Luckely the Belgian army is transforming into a mobile support army that can only set up camps for the red cross/ red moon, detect and clear mines, rebuild bridges and roads. :)

Still it's not safe to me, because Belgium as a Western country stay a friend of the big imperialist countries and will definatly when "it's necesairy" support the imperialist forces. <_<

The downside is that those types of academies can cost tens of thousands of dollars and are pretty much off-limits to most/all of us who'd want to use something like that for good.

A better alternative is to join the Reserves/Militia of our countries. With the exception of the United States, most countries' Reserves are not forced to deploy overseas in combat situations. They will give you military-grade training at a leisurely pace (for instance in Canada, 2 weekends a month, or 2 months during the summer). The exception is of course the US, where National Guard units are routinely sent to Iraq.

Like Raccoon said there's always the danger of being forced to aid imperialist forces but for the most part its unlikely unless your country suddenly gets into a major war. Otherwise its a good place to receive military training about up to standards that regular force members get. Plus you get paid. So essentially, not only is capitalism selling you the rope you'll use to hang them, they're teaching you how to tie the noose, secure it to the gallows, etc etc... ;)
