View Full Version : Suggestions to improve Film and Lit

In a complete rip-off of Black Dagger in discrimination, I've decided to pin this thread asking people what they think should be done in Film and Literature. I'm open to suggestions.

I think the stickies are a bit messy and aren't being used as effectively as they could. I've thought about merging the poetry and creative writing threads and broadening the description. And maybe about doing a survey of what films/books were our favourites this year. Any opinions about that?

Should we unpin something? Pin something else? Do any of you have work that you want to share, or questions about how to write or make films? Or anything?

All input is appreciated. :)

Maybe have a 'Ten Most Important Books In The World' or 'Ten Most Important Films In The World'

Also, we could have a Film/Literature awards, similar to the Chit Chat one but with 'Favourite Leftist Author' and 'Favourite Reactionary Film' etc.

Good idea, but there are so many stickies already. I'm considering removing one or two. Do you have any suggestions for which?

I'd really like that- it's be cool if enough people would participate. :)

maybe you could unpin "The Internationale Documentary", since the link is broken.

Yeah, maybe put a thread up in chit-chat when the questions are ready, so those who don't often visit this part of the forum see it.
Any ideas for questions?

Why not a 'book and film club' nominate a book a month or something, sticky it, and then let people discuss it in depth. Not just like 'yeah it rocks' etc but an attempt at proper critical discussion.

Or maybe book and film critiques etc, I have some essays I've written on books from a Marxist prospective, stuff like that.

I like that idea.

What about 'Books that would make great films' or 'Ideas for film scripts'...?

I'm planning on writing a 'Marxist Evaluation of Literature' kind of like an introduction to studying literature from a Marxist perspective if anyone would be interested in it?

People really need to revitalize the Leftist google videos.....

Perhaps widening it to all videos on the Internet in General??

I was also thinking about merging it with the torrent thread- but the problem is that the torrent thread is for all media, not just video. Argh- I really want to reduce the number of stickies! *frustrated*

Unfortunately i dont think it was the forum description that was stifling discussion... i dun know anything about the subject, but perhaps you or someone who does should start a topic to pop the forums performing arts cherry? Who knows, this time next week the forum could be flooded with theatre reviews!!!

I know, but the reason I proposed this change was that a member (tolstoyevski) asked me why there wasn't anywhere to discuss theatre- and now this is officially it.

So I'm looking at him/her to start the discussion. :P

I think it would be cool to hold weekly film screenings and discuss the historical and aesthetic context of those films. Like torrent a film or something, everyone dl's it and watches it then we discuss it.

Good idea -would depend on how many people were interested, though.
