Friends,
Currently, myself and 15 other Purdue university students are on a hunger strike for worker's rights. More specifically, the reason for our hunger strike is that Purdue university apparel is being made is sweatshops throughout the world. This is still the case 7 years after students first brought the matter to the attention of Purdue administrators.
In order to help sweatshop workers gain rights, we are striking to force Purdue to sign the Designated Suppliers Program (DSP) which assures 3 things:
1) Workers in factories in which university logoed apparel is made have the right to form a democratic union.
2) Workers in said factories have the right to bargain for a living wage.
3) Already established Purdue University code of conduct is followed.
We need your help! Though this campaign is certainly reformist in nature (as an anarchist, I've realized this from the start), it is nevertheless extremely important to work in solidarity with workers in order for them to gain the rights they deserve.
What I am specifically asking everyone on revleft to do is to sign our online petition. This can be found at www.purduehungerstrike.org . The link to the petition is on the left hand side. In addition, the site contains a good amount of info on the campaign.
Here is some media coverage the strike has gotten thus far:
