I'm a fan, although I definitely can't say I'm particularly knowledgable about it, I'm rather new to it. Have you heard of Ali Farka Toure? Hes a West African guitarist/singer who more or less represents a bridge between traditional West African music and the Blues. I highly recomment his album "Talking Timbuktu" which is a collaboration w/ Ry Cooder (who in turn was the narrator and one of the guitarists from "The Buena Vista Social Club). Great stuff.

Ali Farka Toure is one of my favorite musicians. The fusion of Blues and West African music is mezmerizing.
Habib Koite is great too, he's a contemporary of Ali Farka Toure. His music leans more toward West Africa than the Mississippi Delta, though.
Leadbelly, Robert Johnson, and John Lee Hooker are all up there as well. As for Texas blues, my vote goes to Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Oooohh, yeah, I love the blues. Saw Stevie Ray play before he died and saw BB King, Muddy Waters. I especially love Rory Block, one female who plays real traditional Delta blues and who studied under Son House.

I absolutely love the blues. Than again, I love all genres of music. I'm into more electric blues-rock like SRV and I also love Southern Rock i.e. The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special.

One artist that is great but not so well known is Robert Belfour. I heard him at the Winnipeg Folk Festival last summer and he was amazing. Anyone who loves the blues should definately check him out.
