Super duper thanks to encephalon and redapollo (http://redapollo.org/) for hosting the site, without encephalon this idea probably would have never got off the ground, so thanks heaps bro :wub:

Site info

The site is divided into 20 different folders, under broad headings like 'police' or 'religion' etc. The current skin is one of the defaults, hopefully in a few weeks with encephalon's help it will get tweaked a bit to give it a more distinct look. :)

Anyone can view the thumbnails or large versions of the images and 'rate' them.

People who start accounts can do that, plus they can upload their own stencils (presumably in something approaching the appropiate catergories!!!), to the site as well as having space to upload their own pictures to a personal gallery (you can decide who is allowed to view, public, semi-public, private etc.).

That's about all there is to it, stuff i may have forgotten you can probably figure out for yourself - very easy place to navigate.

The site covers a good spread of issues/topics - but if anyone has any suggestions for new categories, new names for existing categories and so forth, please either email me at: [email protected]

Or post your idea in the this thread :)

Same goes if for whatever reason you dont want to upload a stencil on to the site (boo!) feel free to post it in here and i or whoever takes the initiative can upload it on to the site for you. :D

It'll slide down off the page into the void? The gfx forum has quite a few pinned topics, i thought it would be neater if i combined the purposes of the stencil thread with this thread for the stencil database (since there is an obvious connection between the two), rather than having both of those topics pinned.

I understand how stencils work...

As i said before... there are some incomplete stencils on the site - i was engaged in business of going through and perfecting each stencil myself but i havent had time in recent months; so in the mean time people can take the images that are not completely stencilised (these are the minority) and finish them off on their own in their own way (most that are incomplete only require minor changes) - and hopefully upload their work on to the site. If you feel like fixing up some of the images please do, and i'll delete the older versions :)

Or maybe you're talkin to nightwatchman? I can't tell :unsure:

Also, some of the stencils are more than one layer, so may not look like 'stencils', when in fact they are, just not single-layer ones.

It would last about a year or two for &#036;8 and after that I or somebody else could fork up another &#036;8.... I could put a cent a month away and still have change left over after the initial domain is gone.

On his blog, the owner of the site mentioned in March that he was becoming somewhat disillusioned from leftist politics, and told everybody to 'not count on him for anything'. You can see the post in the <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20070616215015/blog.redapollo.org/">Internet Archive</a> (click "cache" next to the url and website size). I suppose he just let the domain expire.

I suppose we'll have to start anew. Looking at the archive, I think he was using "Coppermine Photo Gallery". http://coppermine-gallery.net/ . Maybe revleft.com can just host it?

Do you have any backup of all the files that were hosted? I've got quite a few of the stencils on my HDD, but nothing close to the ammount on the DB... I don't really know much about hosting, but it might within reason if we tried to organise a collection via paypal to pay for hosting to get the DB back online if there aren't any other options?
