Could someone give me some info on Regan ? I know a little about him and the whole Panama thing but I'd like to know more.
My grandpa is a hardcore Regan supporter, I'd like to debate a little more succesfully with him. What other reasons do we have to hate this guy ?

Why do so many people ask on here for help in debating with other people because they don't know enough.
Learn for yourself. That way, you won't get any biased opinions from people. Read, learn and interpret things in your own way.

But equally why is it wrong to ask for some good sources? I don't have the time to read EVERYTHING on any topic in history and have always relied on teachers', friends', and history books' recommendations for further reading.
It may be wrong just to want everyone to tell you everything without looking things up yourself, but asking for sources is normal behavior. Also historians are biased, just like all of us on this forum. By reading historians you are also getting biased opinions... it is impossible to avoid biased opinions, regardless of how you carry out your research.

He invaded Grenada for no reason other than the fact that it was communist.

I realize I need to read to learn about something, I'm not a complete fucking idiot. I just have been exchanging E-mails with my grand pappy and was looking for some quick ammo, I'm SO fucking sorry. Wouldn't this forum be alot funner if no one asked questions ? You know, we could just sit here not talking or anything. That would kick alot of ass.

Calm your ass down. The forum can still do without questions. It would be different if you went to study more then came back and presented your ideas and thoughts and a discussion could/would be started.

So it's o.k to ask questions, but not if you're asking so you can debate with someone ? That's what it seems like.

What the fuck? How about you read my post over again, and then actually think about it.

OMFG. Is it so hard to just read my fucking post? I know he's asking for help, and I gave him some quick topics he could search up in even Encarta or some shit. I was agreeing with socialsmo about asking questions. Obviously rubble misread my post, and I'm not in a good mood.

Disgustapated, thank you. All I was saying is that when people ask questions is here it's usually cool, but when people mention that they are using the info for something, school, a debate, they get *****ed at and told to go read. Oh well, thanks for the website.

Oh ya, I forgot.
What was our official reason for going into Panama ? I know it was for the canal but what I'm wondering is, hoe did we lose control of the canal in the first place ? I heard Jimmy Carter gave it away or something, but I thought it was to return to the Panamanians after a certain period of time. Anyone know ?

ComradeJunichi,
I remember when you first started posting on Che-Lives you used to flood the History forum with similar questions to Urban Rubble. Like who was Zapata? Who was Ho Chi Minh? etc. Heaps of them. I remember Nateddi even questioning why you were here and how you were a communist if you had no idea about many famous communists and communist history. I don't think its wrong to ask a question when you only expect quick snippets of info as UR is wanting with his Reagan question. However don't rely on these posts for answeres, and make sure you follow it up. So both of you calm down. :)

I'm not denying any of these but because I've done the same doesn't mean I should let more questions flood the board. And Nateddi and I are close friends, and my ideology is similar to his.
I never came here as a communist, you seem to have misunderstood me. I came here as some random punk kid who wanted to hear about Che and got interested. After my first month or two of questioning, the rest I have studied alone.
Oh and by the way, it was not only the History forum - it was pretty much all of them. I remember I had my name up in the "lastest post" section all the time.
What I'm saying is if you don't know who, like me for example, Ho Chi Minh is, then go look him up. All you have to do is type it in Yahoo and read about him. After you've gathered sufficient information to create an opinion on him you can post your opinion, e.g. "Ho Chi Minh may have been a communist but many of his followers were more nationalist than they were communists and not too many of them knew much about Marx. The Viet Minh movement was communist, but also nationalist in that they wanted to give imperialist powers a boot". Now people will agree or disagree with that information and surely members will respect opinions done in great research, but when people ask to be spoonfed not too many people appreciate it.
I'm glad that people do remember me and I'm sure most of you, that I've kept in contact with(for your case, Nateddi, since he was the example), know that I've changed. However, Dan, I don't believe we've ever talked before - when I first joined.

What you fail to understand Junichi is that I HAVE read things on Regan, just never with a left wing view. It's hard to find books that aren't right wing biased and that don't praise him.
ComradeJunichi

Then present and share the knowledge and members on this board can refute that information which would be probably coming on a left-wing perspective. There are right-wingers, conservatives, who dislike Reagan.

I don't want to drag this on but just wanted confirmation with some things. So with that quote are you admitting that what you did was wrong? ALso then what type of questions should people be asking on a History forum?

Yes, I think I was searching and pleading to be spoon fed and that does nothing but make your mind weaker in the long term. I'll use the old counseling analogy: Your minds boundaries are like a rubberband and trying with efforts to grasp that information on your own and that push and pull will lengthen the rubberband. Ofcourse this rubberband after a long pull it does come back but it is a bit bigger, just like how many of us forget things. It's that stage of searching and determination that helps us learn, not the few facts we memorize.
In a History Forum I would expect more discussion like topics, the whole spoon feeding idea isn't appealing to me. If I, for example, could have changed some of the things I've posted I would have gone and researched about those topics. Such as "Dictatorship of the Proletariat", "The Paris Commune", and etc. I would have just simply typed it in a search engine and grabbed some information and with that I would be able to create my own opinion. The stage of gathering and analyzing is a key stage and really expands your intelligence. After your opinions are formed you can present these to the members of the board and we can have a discussion, as well as debate.

Urban Rubble, you crazy newbie, don't you know that asking questions is forbidden on this board? Tsk, tsk...it's almost as if you were trying to learn something so you could debate with a right winger! Well...I suppose you will learn after awhile. I know I did!

Smartass, you're not going to learn shit if you're going to try and "learn" with a closed mind. You don't come here with a point of view already set in mind and try to "learn". Instead of asking to be spoonfed with biased material, you can go out and study on your own and base your own thought. Then come back with your idea and present it to the community and spark discussions or debates.

Oh my fucking God, I thought we were done with this shit.
I never asked to be "spoonfed" any information. Like I told you before, I have read a bit about Regan, most of it was biased Right Wing SHIT but even though it was written from a biased perspective I still decided that Regan was not the great president so many assume he was. Where you get this shit about me trying to learn with a closed mind I'll never know but regardless it's bullshit and it's stupid to make assumptions about someone you've never met. I have tried to find un-biased material on Regan with no luck, so I asked for some help with links or some facts. It's not the end of the world and it's not something to make such a big deal about.
I still don't understand where all your animosty comes from.

Oh my fucking god, I wasn't talking about specfically you. If you read the guy I quoted it talks about asking questions in general, not about Urban Rubble. So stay the fuck out.
My animosity comes from..dunno. It's spontaneously created in my body.

Hey, 33 replies and like 3 of them were on the topic, that's pretty good. I declare this thread dead.
Unless someone wants to talk about Ronnie Regan.
