It seems to me that Communism itself has failed the people, for the reason that the people haven't been willing, nor the government generous. Socialism with some Democratic freedoms seems the most compelling argument for Communism today. The last thing I want is for the people to be oppressed, and it seems that when a government has no capital to work with, the people end up suffering substancially. I would have liked to have seen Europe used the ideology of Democractic Socialism beyond simply medicine. The greatest argument for socialism, is that there be a defined standard base care for everyone in the society that they were only aloud upwards from as far as wealth end never downwards. A general base to work with, if you will.
