In highlight of the recent newswire post, does anyone know/can cite the legalities of this?
Also, is anyone sending messages of solidarity to these folks who stood against the odds?

Well I am one one the message board who knows a lot about this shit due to my "activism" against miltiarism in schools.
Basically, its up the child whether or not if they WANT to take it. Most schools now consider and use option 8(I think thats what it is called) which basically says that the school will not use the information presented to distribute to the military, or I think the home phone and shit. Its perfectly legal for the student to give out pamphlets and tell students not to take the test as long as it does not interfere with school. So everything he did was very legal. The recruiter may not take it to kindly but who gives a fuck what he thinks.
IN THE ARTICLE
One of the military recruiters present attempted to snub their efforts, claiming the No Child Left Behind Act allows access to all of their information anyway, and so they might as well take the test.
But what the military recruiter didn't mention is that the student can opt out of the No Child Left Behind Act, which would deny any military organization from gathering a students information from school.
If ya want ne more info about this, or info how to stop it at schools near you (I sound like a damn advertisment or something haha) hit me up.

The ASVAB is usually optional as stated above and it was only recently that I have heard of it being mandantory. Even in places where they are optional, students are generally tricked into taking it as a career evaluations test.
But what the military recruiter didn't mention is that the student can opt out of the No Child Left Behind Act, which would deny any military organization from gathering a students information from school.
One would also have to not apply for financial aid in order to make sure that their info doesn't get out to the military.

back when I was in HS, they pretty much made it seem like the ASVAB was mandatory. I can't recall if they actually came out and said it, but it was implied that you absolutely had to take the test.

I'm pretty sure that it depends on the type of financial aid whether it's state/fed. or private.
