Hi, I just took the political compass test and it's put me under Libertarian Left, but near the Libertarian/Authoratarian Left line. Forgive the spelling.

I then went on to the reading lists, and there was a quote from a right wing book saying this, "On the free market, everyone earns according to his productive value in satisfying consumer desires. Under statist distribution, everyone earns in proportion to the amount he can plunder from the producers".

What is this actually saying? I thought it was saying that we only work to make people buy things, but am I right in saying that this quote doesn't take into account that if we work harder than normal, we still get the same wage.

I just need some extra information on what this quote is actually saying.

Thanks.

Have you seen any of the various Political Compass threads around the place? They get a bit boring. (I am more 1337 then any of y'all 'cause I have a score that you can't get, see my sig.)

As to the quote you give, it is from a right winger. That means that it is obviously biased and thus should be taken with lots of salt.

On the free market, everyone earns according to his productive value in satisfying consumer desires. Under statist distribution, everyone earns in proportion to the amount he can plunder from the producers. This quote is by Murray N. Rothbard (I think) and the context can be found http://www.mises.org/rothbard/mes/chap19.asp . He was a crazy.

The problem with the quote is that the "free market" does not actually exist. And cannot exist under any statist system. Nor could it exist (as comprehended by the "anarcho"-capitalists) in any other system.
