Well today I was in my 6th period class discussing politics with my teacher who I openly talk to about my beliefs and such. Well today he gave me an interesting system but I just don't know what its called. I don't agree with it so don't attack me I just want to know what it is.

He told me he didn't believe in democracy, that he believed in a government ruled by a group of certain people. But it’s not an aristocracy per say because the people would not have anything to gain from it, they would be taken care by the government by bare necessities and would make the decisions for the people. It would be an Oligarchy I would guess but would there be a more specific name?

My teacher is an Econ. major so I was thinking maybe he believe this would benefit the economy in some way? He didn't really go into much detail but I found it rather interesting but couldn't find the name for it. Any ideas? Sorry if this is a dumb question or in the wrong forum. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like your typical Stalinist regime. Limited personal economic perks for the leaders, but lots of centralized power.

Its nothing like what you call "Stalinism".

More to the point, determining how this group of people with power are selected. If its on bloodlines its feudalism, if its on religious grounds its theocracy, if its on skill its a very authoritarian meritocracy, it could also be argued to be comparable to political Platonism (that is after the political system advocated in Plato's, The Republic).

Sounds like the typical elitist bullshit that's been around since the Greeks. The principle behind such a government is that the masses are not capable of thinking, or acting, for themselves or in their best interests. As a result a select cadre of intellectuals must take up the "burden" of rulership. As I said, bullshit.

Sounds like it contains some ideals from technocracy, primarily resource managers and resource distribution centers. Especially since your teacher is an econ. major it may very well have something to do with Technocracy since that is a very well economic-advantageous system. Not sure though, try to find out some more about it.

Sounds somewhat like Plato's kallipolis and his "philosopher-kings" and 3-class society.

yeah, it's at least plato-induced.
