Ok, here's the way it is.
Iv recently decided to break free from capitalistic exploitation by working for myself doing window cleaning (Being conscious of the nature of my own exploitation, working for the capitalist, for very little returns, became unbearable - for me anyway :P).
I would advise anyone who also finds working for the capitalist unbearable, to do window cleaning.
I invested 200 Euro in the equipment, a ladder, wiper blades or "squeegee", scrubber brush, extension pole and bucket. (potentially you could get this for cheaper and you may have most of the equipment like a ladder already)
The advantages of doing this line of work are very clear - 1) you choose your own hours. 2) You are your own boss. 3) The rate of pay is more than 3-4 times the minimum wage per hours work. 4) its not that laboursome 5) there are very few, and infact none in my particular area who deliver this service 6) you avoid paying tax on your income 7) Labour is unskilled and needs no training, and 8) Windows never stay clean forever .
The going rate for external (and you should only do external) windows, front and back, at least here in Ireland, is 25 - 30 Euro for an average three bedroom semidetached house with, on average, ten window panels of varying size. One house takes literally, 30 - 45minuites work, yet you recieve, in terms of labour time and the present minimum wage here in Ireland, up to, and potentially more than 4 times the minimum wage and it being untaxed.
I am begining to sound like a capitalist myself with all this talk, but im telling you how it is.
Not only do you have the advantages mentioned above - but this line of work puts you in a prime position amongst the community you live in. You are in a position, delivering a service to each individual household, generally working class, to spread your views and deliver revolutionary propaganda - financed by them, printed by you (at maybe a local photocopyer), and distributed back to them (generally you call back every two months or so).
Thats my position presently.
I would like to ask questions and for suggestions.
1) What is your general view on this line of work from a socialist perspective, seeing that I now own my means to produce capital.
2) In your view, is it right for me to advise comrades into this line of work?
Presently, I see no harm in what im doing, and am in a position to help spread revolutionary literature amongst working class households.
-----------------------------------------------
Need suggestions.
Whether you like it or not from the above questions, I will continue my window cleaning and wish to use the money to distribute revolutionary literature.
I would like your suggestions as to what you feel would be appropriate for distribution to those who are new to revolutionary politics.
I want to distribute both Anarchist, Marxist and, althought to a lesser extent, based on my own views, leninist propaganda and literature.
It must not be intimidating to read or dull, and must be suitable to those unfamiliar with, or even, with presently little interest in revolutionary politics.
For example, althought it still remains a contender, the communist manifesto I have doubts about distributing. Yes it serves as an introduction - but it can be intimidating to read, much of its outdated - and, to be honest, id find it embarrising to publish - the " spectre is haunting Europe" line is enough to send someone running, or even laughing away. (thats my opinion anyways)
I really do believe im in a position to change the way people see the system, the state in particular, and would really like your suggestions.
I also could consider distributing video's or files on CD's.
Thanks in advance - TRB.
